Well, my reason for speaking the way I did against school lunches is simple really, at the High school I was at, before the healthy alternatives were introduced, the school lunches were basically just fast food, chips (fries), burgers, chicken nuggets, pizza, that sort of thing, and very very little vegetables.
It was like eating at a less tasty Macdonalds. Now, my point is that, fast food is nice to have now and then, but every day it's not a good idea, and it isn't healthy.

And what confused me about your points was, before the healthier meals were introduced, parents weren't happy about how their kids were eating at school, and they were pleased when healthy meals were enforced on schools, even though for a while their kids weren't that impressed.

That said, I am all for parents having their own prerogative about how their children are raised, and sure, the Government shouldn't be allowed to act on their own, but when I posted I naturally assumed that PTA comities, school comities, ETC, would have been involved in it.

On the parental side- no, the PTA has no involvement whatsoever. They shut us down every time. It's to the point now where we are linking together and we will provide sack lunches for the less fortunate kids, with parents permission, because we all feel that our kids are not getting the best they need.

From everything you said there it sounds like you should be agreeing with what I said in my first comment, type 1 and 2 diabetes are also present in one side of my family, so I'm extremely interested in keeping healthy.

As far as the BMI goes, I'm considered overweight too for my age, being 6'3" and 13.6 stone (190 lbs) but I'm only 9.2 on body fat percentage. When I said 'overweight people' before, I really meant 'fat people'.

And we have the same problem in the UK with benefits given to obese people claiming to be disabled, and one way to lower that is to make kids eat healthier meals in school, this will get them used to eating healthy meals in general, even if their parents don't enforce it.

I'm glad your daughter is healthy and athletic, but I really don't get why you were arguing with me earlier, you sound like healthy eating for your family is important to you.
User avatar #104 - sevensixtwo (11/16/2012) [-]
My argument stems from my conflicting views on who should raise children. Parents should raise their children, the parents should dictate what their child has eaten, parents decided how much of what food their child eats. Not the first lady, not the government, not anyone else. I had the opportunity to sit down with my little girl for lunch once, and I was appalled at the amount of food that was thrown away because the kids didn't want it. My girl is taught to clean her plate. Food is a gift, and should not be wasted. Even though she eats what she is given, she is still not fat. She eats her school lunch with gusto, but still not overweight. Kids get fat when they get home- It's the parent's fault for fluffing up their kid. You attacked school lunches, which are not the problem. It's parents having trouble telling their kids "no" that is the problem in America. So culling student lunches solves nothing, it is just another propaganda tactic for the kim jongistration (gov't, not school) to seem like they have our best interests in mind. My girl comes home hungry, but she eats, does schoolwork if she has any, we check it together, and then she does her chores and follows me with mine. Other people are fucking with how I raise my child, pardon me, but that is what pisses me off. Perhaps my anger is misdirected at you, but there are many factors that are seemingly never brought into consideration- when the life and health of a child are brought up, ignorance is hardly acceptable. My apologies for snipping at you, stranger.

I'm 20 years old, of course I do not have children, I never once stated that the lunch in the content is the "average american school meal", I merely stated that healthier meals are a step forward, and believe it or not, cutting down a huge fatty meal into a smaller, less fatty meal, makes it much healthier.

Your opinion is also stupid, for example, because I'm British, you have decided that I'm not a human who has the exact same nutritional needs as any American human of my age.

I actually have a very good understanding in the nutritional needs of children and teenagers, so just because I don't have my own children, doesn't mean I don't know what they need in terms of nutrition.
I also used to be a child, and judging by the condescending tone with which you're using to speak to me, I was a child much more recently than you were.

I never questioned your parenting, though I knew the parent of a fat child would read what I wrote as such. But fat children have a high risk of suffering from heart failure, which will kill your child, so maybe you should listen to other people for a change, you may learn something.
User avatar #100 - aceofshadows (11/16/2012) [-]
So let me get this straight. You're a twenty year old guy so you don't go to school and do not order lunches there. You have no kids so you don't know what they are getting for lunch at their schools. You're going to tell me how the lunches are at school? Have you ever even tried to find out what the new lunches are like?
User avatar #101 - defeats (11/16/2012) [-]
I don't live in America, how the fuck am I meant to know what the school meals are like there?
User avatar #102 - aceofshadows (11/16/2012) [-]
Then why do you repeatedly assume our lunches were a good idea when you don't even live here?
User avatar #91 - sevensixtwo (11/16/2012) [-]
All right "guvnuh", I'll fill you in.

Yup, I'm American. I am 23 years old. I have a 5 year old daughter and another on the way. I am 6'4" and hovering around 215 pounds, and while the BMI says I'm overweight, I'm not a blimp. Where I live is southern Indiana. We are mostly small farming communities, full of nice, decent people- not too many disgustingly obese people. I can almost agree with you- fat people piss me off, but for a different reason. I pay for them to get fatter. They're too fat to work, so our government takes money out of my check to pay for their disability and food stamps. That's getting off topic though. My daughter is not at all fat, she has expressed interest in going to gymnastics, and I support it wholeheartedly. She isn't fat because she is at my side when I'm working around the house. She is adept at learning, and she refuses to lose or give up- even when I check my trail cameras, she tags along and I tell her all about wildlife- I show her what berries you can eat in the woods, we go mushroom hunting, and she is generally a remarkably healthy little girl. Heart disease and diabetes are high on both sides of my family, so I am quite aware of what extra weight means. My children are my weight goal- I don't ever want to miss a day with them because of being fat. I carefully limit what they eat as snacks and what we eat as a family because they don't need to be eating trash. Snacks are fruit, nuts, and sometimes vegemite. If she is really good, she may get a nutella and peanut butter sandwich. She is no Honey Boo-boo, I can attest to that. You are jut as human as I am- however, I'm sure British food and American food are quite different nutritionally because there are different government funded groups maintaining it. We have a small garden, and the neighbors also gave us any extra vegetables as well because they have a surplus of crop. Apparently I've run out of characters, so I'll end my rant here.

So we Brits have different nutritional needs than you Americans?
The UK has an obesity problem too, it's not like I'm from a starving country in Africa telling you that you should stop eating so much and send food to me.

And if you're a fat parent, who thinks it's okay to let your children get fat, you're a moron.
My kids will never get fat as long as they live under my roof, I'm an athletic person who holds a good diet, I like being healthy, I want my children to be healthy, you should too.
User avatar #76 - sevensixtwo (11/16/2012) [-]
You do not have kids who are in school, I assume. You also have no basis for argument, in my opinion, because you can't possibly think you know this content is a good example of "US HIGH SCHOOL LUNCHES". I'm not going to even bother replying to your second part of your reply, because you simply do not know. If you don't have kids, your opinion of my parenting also means nothing to me.

Perhaps my anger is misdirected at you, but there are many factors that are seemingly never brought into consideration- when the life and health of a child are brought up, ignorance is hardly acceptable. My apologies for snipping at you, stranger.
User avatar #107 - defeats (11/16/2012) [-]

User avatar #108 - sevensixtwo (11/16/2012) [-]
On the parental side- no, the PTA has no involvement whatsoever. They shut us down every time. It's to the point now where we are linking together and we will provide sack lunches for the less fortunate kids, with parents permission, because we all feel that our kids are not getting the best they need.

Your BMI says I'm overweight.
User avatar #93 - sevensixtwo (11/16/2012) [-]
And are you a disgusting fatbody? Probably not.
User avatar #94 - overweight (11/16/2012) [-]
I'm pretty fat man.
User avatar #95 - sevensixtwo (11/16/2012) [-]
Well congratulations, overweight. It would appear your profile name is correct.

Finally I got something right.

User avatar #57 to #56 - sevensixtwo (10/18/2012) [-]
I like it- like the stylized smoke and skull, but i just did quit smoking, so the cigarette doesn't seem to fit... the smoke does look good, though- actually, that can be incorporated into hot gun barrels, if and when they are used.
User avatar #58 to #57 - mushizombie (10/18/2012) [-]
sorry! originally i had a gun in his mouth but since i couldn't draw it right i erased it and made a simple cigarette instead. congrats on quitting :) i can take that out and leave it blank so ou can draw in a gun or what ever you'd like.
User avatar #59 to #58 - sevensixtwo (10/18/2012) [-]
lol well i also had a few suicide attempts last year as well... haha well done though. hmmm... let me think with what you have so far... I was trying to stay away from symbolism, but it seems harder than I thought.
User avatar #60 to #59 - mushizombie (10/18/2012) [-]
oh wow, I'm an idiot then. sorry about that D:
User avatar #61 to #60 - sevensixtwo (10/19/2012) [-]
Trust me, you aren't an idiot for that- you didn't know, and I'm not the least bit offended... I'm certainly not against a dark tattoo, but I want to keep this as awesome and original as possible- some themes are acceptable, but when people see it, I want to hear awesome. Possibly random, but The one- of- a kind pieces you only see once every few years. Ink that you remember, you know? Draw something... something you would want to get put on yourself. Not necessarily for me, in your mind, but for you. What defines awesome for you? I'm taking into consideration we have never spoken, never met, or discussed anything other than this- but what would you wear for life? Something like that.
User avatar #62 to #61 - mushizombie (10/19/2012) [-]
alright, I'm going to start fresh then. give me some more time and ill try to present you with something ******* awesome.
User avatar #63 to #62 - sevensixtwo (10/19/2012) [-]
That is fine with me... I'm always here if you need ideas, and I apologize if you feel I have pressured you. I love your style though, and keep up the good work!

Well, my dad is into hot rods, so im familiar with the work, but im not a rabid fan- enough to recognize a similarity, and thats about it. If you go too much into it, it might look like a rip-off, and i want to keep this original to you (or us).. but as you add more to the design, there wont be as much attention on this one piece here, so keep going with you original thread so fer and see what turns up.
User avatar #50 to #49 - mushizombie (09/29/2012) [-]
alright sounds good :) i just want to make sure you're happy with it lol

well thats fine... i really dont care if he looks here or not. these little pissing wars are whats making this site suck... but ill go down with my pride. its quite a sad day when i can honestly say /b/ has treated me better than FJ.
User avatar #40 to #39 - User (09/19/2012) [-]
I agree.

But I never did anything other than lurk on /b/
User avatar #41 to #40 - sevensixtwo (09/19/2012) [-]
<<--- samesies.

which makes that realization even more saddening.
User avatar #42 to #41 - User (09/19/2012) [-]
I think in the four years that I have actually visited 4chan I have only made about 3 posts.
User avatar #43 to #42 - sevensixtwo (09/19/2012) [-]
oh well i mean i make posts, but never started a thread or participated in a raid... but i share the lol's and get plenty if reaction images, and everything works out fine. I don't see the allure of FJ nearly as much anymore... situations like this make me less and less proud to be a member here.
