Form a barricade at a border crossing and man it with officers. First row had riot shields, second has firearms. If migrants advance on the shields, it threatens the lives of the officers. Second row would fire warning shots, and then actual shots if crowd does not disperse. It's moral if it's in self defense against an overwhelming amounts of invaders.

These people should not be given free passes to western countries.

Yes and do you understand how much better that is?
There is 122 million Americans who pay federal income tax, so lets take this as our number for how many people will be paying the additional taxes for free college.
if they spend a billion tax payer dollars to fund this every month, it would be 8 dollars per month per tax payer so this would allow 1000's of people who could never dream of going to college the chance to get better jobs and possibly helping the economy rather than doing nothing
User avatar

Nothing is free, we all pay for shit already. All these good things that Bernie is saying, are GOOD things, Black rights=great if you're white then you don't know how badly my black cousin has it in society Free public college= Everyone wants to go, when you go to college oppurtunities open up, and hey maybe one of the kids will be a billionair after which is one of the points to going to college is to get a great job. =Wants middle east to come together= hopefully create a muslim empire as large as the Ottomans and LIKE HILARY, he wants equal pay for Woman and free Healthcare which what every other super power has, In Rwanda in Africa they found a cure to stop hiv to be spread from pregnant mothers to their kids
By the time that medicine gets here, The fucking pharmaceuticals company are going to have a field day with those prices so waht is going to do? lower them.
. ALL these things are positives with good intentions and ya have a problem with it cause he doesn't want to kill ISIS by himself, and wants the assholes who crashed our market in the firstplace and messed up you Europeans economy as well, to help pay for kids who want to better themselves in school and ya have a problem with that?

we have free college over here in europe in france at least
it's pretty swell

I'm not saying that its the same everywhere, but your college tuition system seems pretty broken.
From what I understood you need to pay like 50k even for public college again I could be wrong, i'm just trying to give you my view on the situation so students are obligated to have a loan or semi comfotable income parents.
getting people in debt isnt the best way to interest them in having a decent college education I think.

What alternative would you propose to 'free college' ? semi-free ? reducing prices of college tuitions because no way sitting a students ass on a chair costs so much ?

feel free to express, I am very interested by that issue currently
User avatar
#344 - durkadurka (12/23/2015) [-]
The crux of the matter is the notion that I should be forced to pay for someone else's anthropology degree or their art history degree or whatever. Quite honestly this is absurd. Not only does it force me to pay for other peoples' bad choices (ie a useless degree or spending those 4 years partying), but there's no logical distinction from this or being forced to pay for someone else's food, home, car, etc.

>reducing prices of college tuitions because no way sitting a students ass on a chair costs so much ?

They've already tried to do this. They subsidize the costs with federal loans, but this actually helps inflate the cost of tuition Since you're guaranteeing a certain amount of federal dollars with every student

It's also important to note that most people aren't paying 50k a year for college. A lot of times that high sticker price is just to make their university seem exclusive or fancy or whatever. What they tend to do is cut your tuition down significantly under the pretext of scholarships and whatnot. I don't actually know anyone who pays that much for college.

Here's what I propose:
College is an investment. You are investing in educating yourself. If you don't think that investment is worth it, don't go to college. If you think the investment is worth it, do it and the benefit you gain from it should enable you to pay off those loans.
It's just like buying yourself a car: You do it because you believe it will make your situation better off, and I'm not expected to pay for your vehicle.

I paid $150 to take every prerequisite I needed for a degree in basically any STEM field. 6 classes. Because scholarship that everybody in the state gets
User avatar
#358 - fukkendragonite (12/23/2015) [-]
It is an investment, which is why you're being asked to invest in your own country's people. Invest in the next generation, and who knows, they might just make a decent wedge and be able to afford a great pension for you. It comes back around to you that way. If you don't believe in your fellow countrymen and women, then what the fuck is your flag for anyway?

The point is not everyone can afford to take that leap. Good intelligent young people miss opportunities because they can't break free of the class barrier.
User avatar
#367 - durkadurka (12/23/2015) [-]
Why should I not be expected to invest in their car as well? After all they need it to get to work! What about new clothes so they can look professional in job interviews? The logic is the same here.

And if the investment is so bad that a person won't make that investment themselves, why am I suddenly expected to make that bad investment?

Also, it's important to note that I'm not being asked, I'm being told. IE, money is forcibly being extracted from me. This is the government telling me it knows how to spend my own money better than i do.

I actually DO believe in my countrymen. I believe they're smart and strong enough to figure things out and help themselves. I believe they're capable of figuring out whether nor not a degree is actually worth the price tag. I believe that they're capable of telling good investments apart from bad ones. And I believe they're better than needing big brother to take care of things for them.

Our flag is for liberty.

It's not a case of "is it worth it" and more a case of "It's absolutely worth it but if I don't make it, I'm on the streets begging for change because the debt will cripple me".

I don't care how high your taxes would be, it won't be high enough to leave you begging on the streets.
User avatar
#386 - durkadurka (12/23/2015) [-]
You're saying "It's absolutely worth it the outcome if everything goes my way." But that's not how life works.

Again, why should I make be forced to make the investment in you that you're not willing to make yourself?

And what's the difference between this and being forced to pay for the car you drive or the clothes you wear?

You're arguing for a forcible redistribution of wealth.
User avatar
#421 - fukkendragonite (12/24/2015) [-]
It's not an investment in "me" because I'm already a student and I'm already paying my own fees. Just worth mentioning.

Yes, I suppose I am arguing for a forcible redistribution of wealth. That represents a good thing to me. I guess we've found where we differ. Good discussing this with you. I respect your opinion.

Our system is broken because people are greedy. We should be paying for the cost of the services and they are overpricing said services. This also goes for healthcare. It's really quite simple. Making college education free is simply not logical, our tax system is corrupt, if we make more things "free" it will only get worse. Lower education (primary school, etc) being free hasn't been horribly fantastic either, children that are highly capable are being held back, and children that are having issues are falling way behind. Some people are quite simply not brain surgeons, they were made for different things and should be trained for such. If we were to implement free college education, we would start to run into the same issues. Once people got the free education, next they would want everyone to be able to go to college, and then we start pandering to people less capable, we start to lose our intelligence and move towards everyone being "equal" this, to me is a horrible thing. Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible.

I have no position in the upcoming vote since I'm not from the US but the college part still baffles me. Why the fuck do you act like funding education through taxes of everyone is a bad thing? What the fuck are you thinking? Who else would pay for it? Schools left to their own devices managed to raise the prices of education so fucking high that the biggest consideration before getting into a college is not whether you have good enough grades, but whether or not you or your parents will be able to afford it. What the fuck kind of system is that? The future of the country literally lies in the hands of the young people, and the first thing they have to do after high school is to be put through a meat grinder of fucking getting an education and surviving. And then they come out of it with dept for the next ten years. Of course everyone should pay taxes to give free or at least semi free education (government pays ~80% of the cost) to the students. What other way is there to look at education? Bachelor degrees don't even come close to guaranteeing a job these days anyway.
But I guess spending retarded amounts of money for being a huge military power and supporting the ever growing army of obese whales who need to fuel themselves and their mobility scooters constantly, without producing a cent of value for their own country is more important. I don't mean to say that everything is wrong, but holy fuck is the education system fucked up there.
#220 - bokbokbok (12/23/2015) [-]
People here are stupid and don't want to pay taxes. These same people drive on roads, go across bridges, want the police to show up if called, want the fire department to come put their house fires out and want social security, medicaid and medicare. There is al disconnect on the stupidity of the masses (especially rich people for some reason) that they expect all without contributing anything for some reason.
User avatar
#240 - dzeusas (12/23/2015) [-]
If people don't realize, that paying taxes directly translates to those services, then they really need the free education. I mean it's such a basic concept, why would they feel like they're entitled to something, without putting something into the system first?
