Britain owned the land, and could do whatever they wanted with it.
They made Israel.

Thus, Israel's right to exist in that area.

Well said! Well said indeed.

This is why I will state time and time again that I despise Obamacare, but if the US government were to institute a REAL universal health care system in which everyone's taxes go towards medical care, and nobody pays at point-of-sale, I would unequivocally support it.

I do not understand why the US feels the need to spend so much on defence spending. It hardly requires a strategic genius to realise that perhaps before spending so much time and money worrying about weapons, politics, and other countries' troubles, we should try and sort out our own internal affairs first. No war can be fought if a country's infrastructure is lacking, no matter how big its proverbial genital size...

"i dont get why people think they can decide what their taxes go to. "

See this is the big philosophical disconnect between you and I. You believe it is morally just to forcibly take money from people, including yourself apparently, and use it for ends a government official deems as 'good'. So I assume you would find it morally acceptable if the majority of people in your country decided that everyone in your socioeconomic tax bracket should have your taxes increased by 25% so as to fund the building of amusement parks in the middle east with the idea that this might reduce militant extremism in the region? And as long as the majority of people in your country feel this endeavor is one of those 'important things' taxes should go toward, you should take your lumps until the day arrives that you can get enough people in office that agree with you. Or what if instead of amusement parks they wanted to build nukes or biological weapons and just destroy everyone in the region using the money they tax from you?

See you don't understand why people are upset about paying for other people's healthcare because YOU don't have a problem with this particular policy, and of course if YOU don't have a problem with it everyone else who does must just be stupid or selfish or mean or 'want to show off their penis size' (whatever the hell that has to do with it). You my friend are a tyrant at heart. You feel that as long as you agree with what the government does with everyone's money it is fine for them to take it and screw everyone else who disagrees with you, whether they are 0.1% of the population or 49.9%. But I am sure you are also the type of person to scream bloody murder when your government spends money on things YOU feel are a complete waste of time or morally wrong.

Isn't that the point of a democracy? You elect officials to do stuff, and you go along with majority rules whether or not you agree with them? I mean if you don't like it, you're free to leave, but if everyone thought like you, if the system worked the way you seem to think it should would we ever get anything done? No. There are no laws we could make or programs we could institute that everyone agrees with.
#148 - aliksander (05/11/2015) [-]
The original commenter made it clear that he doesn't understand why some are upset and speaking out against obamacare. I explained why and he infered that people should not be complaining since we have elected representatives. I understand that some laws are present and necessary, but to then to turn around and act like people who disagree with a law you support are idiots, should just be quiet unless the representatives they elect are in the majority, and make false claims like saying that the law makes Healthcare 'free' goes against the idea of representative government and is the sort of ideas that tyrants support (ex. I or my agents are in charge, we know what's best for everyone and you should be silent and not criticize our decisions).

As I said before it's easy to say other should be silent and accept what the representatives in their government do when you agree with their decisions. It's a different story when representatives you DON'T agree with are in charge.
#149 - mykol (05/11/2015) [-]
I actually feel exactly the way you're saying. What's the point in bitching? All it does is let people know that A) you have no problem bitching about shit and B) you didn't get what you wanted. It doesn't change anything, it doesn't get anything done. If you disagree with something it's as simple as "Welp, I didn't vote for this."
Representatives that people don't agree with are in charge all the time. I sure nobody agrees 100% with every representative, so your final point is simply wrong. If you ever say that people should be silent and accept what representatives do you are likely saying it with the knowledge that there are representatives making decisions you don't agree with.

I for one disagree with tons of laws that pass, however, not one person on this site or in real life would ever ask me "Why do you hate such and such law so much?" cuz I stay silent and let my government officials make their decisions. If for some reason they start making decisions that I think are ruining the country I would leave the country.

Taxes are not 'forcibly taking money from people'. Taxes are a cost of citizenship. Everyone has to pay taxes. Even the president pays taxes. Get a grip on logic, mate.

But you're entirely right, and in fact you proved sedilotsopa's point. Of course nobody would find it morally acceptable if taxes were used to build amusement parks in the Middle East. That's why the legislators who came up with that plan would be voted right the bloody hell out of office. That is literally what sedilotsopa was saying - you might not be able to DIRECTLY control where the taxes go, but you can control it by electing officials and legislators with sound heads on their shoulders.
User avatar #109 - durkadurka (05/10/2015) [-]
By definition, taxation is an act of force. Essentially anything a government does is an act of force. If taxation was not an act of force it would then have to be voluntary, which it is not.
But understand, I'm not trying to infer a moral judgement. The creation of a government (by the people) is essentially an understanding that some force is needed to maintain society. The use of force is thus sanctioned by the people being governed. When the use of government power is deemed to be in breach of this arrangement, the people will change the government (anything from electing new politicians to revolution).

So in short, yes it's force but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Because people are fucking morons and blame all of our problems on the president.
Not saying he's even halfway competent, but the healthcare issue is the republicans fault.
