It's fine. The show follows the manga really well and the anime is very good so it's alright to be seen with your bf. You don't really need the manga unless you want to be more in depth or want to know more afterwards.
In regards to what you should expect, the Heroes Association is a major part of the plot and is part of what progresses the story. The whole season is not like the first episode where he just walked around and randomly defeats villains. Also expect the rest of my previous aesthetic reasons as well.

If you want a simple aesthetic reasoning for watching then, good animation, good story, good characters, action, comedy, and easy to get into.

If you want the deeper meaning then the story is revolved around how Saitama has become too strong. It's like starting a new game of pokemon, but from start to finish, you're using a level 100 legendary. He became stronger not because he wanted to find worthy opponents, but to become a hero. However, nobody recognizes him and his One Hit KOs have become so common that his emotions are dull. Saitama faces a moral dilemma, while simultaneously having to deal with the conflicts of other people. This is because, in the world that Saitama is a part of, other people are dealing with problems too, but aren't as strong as he is.

I didnt mean to snobby or sth like that, just i saw all the opm content and was curious. and kinda confused after watching the first episode. I didn't know what to expect. And wanted to know why i should continue to watch it. Didn't know about the manga/webcomic either. I'm not really an experienced anime watcher. Only watched a handfull of series...

it does become a lot more "oh no people are dying" later on, plus in the newest episode he finally meets his match.
