thevoodoofrog (05/07/2014) [-] Coruscant was a city, and they could have used physical sets for over half the scenes they shot they. Also with Mustafar. And the Gungan city was just hilarious. Coruscant was a planet with high technology...that had speeders flying all over the place in the background... Mustaar was a volcanic planet shooting lava all over the damn place and had a scene where the main characters were having an intense lightsaber duel on a structure that fell into the lava... you realize how much sets like those cost?

thevoodoofrog (05/07/2014) [-] And? The deserts in episode 4 were real deserts, and the sets were all real. Coruscant, Mustafar, the Gungan city, and other crazy ass locales, however, were not in Episode 4. #56 -

If you have the technology, why not use it to make a more visually appealing movie? I'd take Anakin and Obi-wan fighting with volcanoes erupting in the background on multiple levels of a melting structure over Darth Vader and Obi-wan slowly fighting in a hallway #96 -
jubajubejiblets (05/07/2014) [-] Idk, I liked the look of Degobah way more than the look of the Wookie's home planet. I think CGI should only be used when something is otherwise impossible to render. Real sets and on-location-filming look better every time in my opinion. Consider this: The story is far more important than the special effects. Done right, special effects enhance the story. Done the starwars way, they're a crutch used in place of a compelling story. In the original movies, people cared about the lightsaber fights not because they were "super cool" looking, but because the movies spent a lot of time getting them to care about the characters and WHY they were fighting. The fight between Obi- Wan and Darth Vader is significant and sticks in the minds of everyone for reasons other than fight itself. ALL of the ligthtsaber fights in the original three movies were clunky at best, but they were tense and exciting because you were invested in the characters and the fight's outcome. The only fight in the prequels I really found myself caring about was the final fight between Obi-wan and Anakin. It was really the only maybe there are a few fight the movies give you a reason to care about and even then it went on for far too long. Most of the other ones were just shiny eye-candy. TL;DR: It's not about the fight itself, but about the characters and their cause, plus associated emotions. #55 -
thevoodoofrog (05/07/2014) [-] This way of thinking is directly responsible for the decline of cinematic storytelling. You'd rather of something stupid and obvious over something subtle and brilliant. but you're implying a scenario were there is only a good story or only good visuals. The two aren't mutually exclusive. A great example is Disney's "UP". It had a rich, enticing, and meaningful story, and it was done with entirely with computers ("but you need live actors and sets to draw inspiration for the models", shut up internet) Episode 3, IMHO, is my favorite of all six Star Wars movies so far. The story did it's job perfectly, and it does not even matter if the story was predictable. It would have been a shitty story if it was anything less than predictable. Don't get me wrong, Episode 4 is amazing too. both movies have their strengths and both have their weaknesses. But visually, the prequals top AT LEAST episode 4, which, aside from the climactic space battle and scenes in the desert, take place in rooms and halls. #67 -
thevoodoofrog (05/07/2014) [-] The problem with that is, real actors need REAL props, in order to give the best performance they can - they need SOMETHING at least. Take a look at that scene from Episode 3 where General Grievous is about to fight Obi-Wan, and he's spinning around his lightsabers really fast, and Ewan McGregor doesn't even react. He just stands there, because all he had to work with was a green background. And honestly, no, it doesn't top it visually. So many scenes are painfully just NOT real. I understand it can't be done for everything, but something like the Canteena scene in 4, is so much more real than the diner scene in Clone Wars, because it was all real. When something is obviously fake, it just draws your completely out of the movie. #85 -
thebaseballexpert (05/07/2014) [-] DON'T TALK TO ME ABOUT HOW THE PREQUALS ARE NOT BETTER VISUALLY. The Deathstar and the laser beam look fake as shit, you can tell easily the ships and Deathstar 2 are models, don't even get me started on the horrific CGI in Jabbas palace, And Yoda looks infinitely better when he can actually MOVE AROUND ON SCREEN, instead of being an animatronic puppet. Especially in Episode 1, they made physical sets and minatures, and then spruced them up with CGI to make them look better. They did this in the original trilogy, but not to the extent that they did in Episodes 1-3 Stop being a stubborn fanboy and saying that absolutely nothing is better about the new movies than the originals. Also Attack of the Clones is a shitty movie in and of itself. It's hands down the worst Star wars movie, and there is absolutely no way Abrams could do worse. #104 -
thevoodoofrog (05/08/2014) [-] I'm not saying the CGi isn't an improvement over some things, but thats the problem. They didn't use CGI to make sets and actors better, they did it INSTEAD of sets. Watch any of the behind the screens footage, and all it is for the entire movie, is actors walking about on blue or green mats. It sucks, and its just lazy. Its mostly why the original trilogy has better acting than the prequels. >The problem with that is, real actors need REAL props, in order to give the best performance they can - they need SOMETHING at least. Take a look at that scene from Episode 3 where General Grievous is about to fight Obi-Wan, and he's spinning around his lightsabers really fast, and Ewan McGregor doesn't even react. He just stands there, because all he had to work with was a green background. You try making a scale model of general grievous that can fight as quickly as he did in the movies and move as quickly as he did in the movies. ^This Also, consider that he stood in awe because that's what his character would do. It's not every day you see a droid wielding not one, but TWO lightsabers... AND THEN break apart to wield FOUR lightsabers, and then start spinning them in a death wheel. Hell, I've never directed a movie before, and even I would put the opposite character in awe of such a sight, if even for a couple seconds. It's not because he's not working with something, it's just acting. I'm sure he was actually fighting SOMEONE to give the actor a tactile feel for the scene. #103 -
thevoodoofrog (05/08/2014) [-] If I was a Jedi and General Grievous was doing that, I would just crush his head with the Force. You know, because they can do that...and he's a robot with literally no defense against it. But hey, logic.

| True, but after a while it felt a bit forced. All the "will they/won't they get back together" seemed like it was there to fill scenes between important story points. I do agree, they would need more of that because Electro couldn't go and fight Peter Parker, just Spider-Man, but most of it was repetitive and unnecessary (in my opinion, at least). And I really wish they did more with the Goblin, I was really excited to see how they were going to do him. That scene when Gwen died gave me feels though | ||

Bro, you're the one stalking me. I looked at your profile to find out if you're some kinda of troll. Results inconclusive.
Yeah. It was pretty damn good. My only real gripe is that Captain Phasma did ******* the whole movie.
you must be the most autistic person in the world friend request plz
I never said Brienne wasn't going to kill them, only that the writers of the show weren't somehow pandering.
you were defending his "choice" of burning his daughter when it was nothing more than a **** you to a character that was going to die next episode
I was defending it. It made perfect sense for the character to do it. Stannis is a guy who sees things through to the end. That's why he attacked Winterfell anyway, even though he had a very marginal chance of succeeding. This is a guy who had his own brother assassinated to achieve his ends, how are you bitching about sacrificing his daughter to achieve victory? It's entirely in-character.
Sato is on the cutting edge of technology in the Avaterverse, bro. You think they're going to stop at mecha and airplanes? Nope. Now it's time to cash in on all those injured veterans of the battle with the Earth Empire with platinum prosthetic limbs.
And in order to keep profiting, they're going to need to remain on the cutting edge. Hence, cybernetics. It'll happen eventually. Just savor that knowledge.
Aye, found a sweet lil glitch.
If you want to do a new pvp character:
-Aqcuire boss soul (Any boss soul)
-Equip
-Do an r1 attack
-Shortly before the animation ends, press X then immediately start
-Use Estus flask
-If done right, it will now ask you to consume boss soul
-Boss soul will be consumed, but is still in your inventory
You can repeat that as much as you want, there is no limit. Same goes for fire keeper souls. ALL the humanity.
I'm level 110 now.

So, my miracle using thief is at level 31 by now and in NG, heh.
Getting there.
Getting there.
Nice!
Raising your soul level is much more of a chore when you're actually trying. Before I'd be like "Oh no, I'm already SL 53 and I've only got like 20 Faith" or whatever.

Yeah, I really need to be careful what I raise. But hey, the highest I can go is 130 and still get loads of PVP action. 30 faith is enough anyway if you're not going all out on WOG spamming. A bit of vit with fap ring, pump the rest into dex and stamina.
Hey dude. Turns out that character doesn't have the silver serpent ring yet, but does have the symbol of avarice. I was farming the forest for a while, but got bored, so I went back to invading. I don't know how feasible it'll be at this point.
...Okay, I dun completely dumbed.
Are you in NG or NG+? If still NG I gonna grind my new char as soon as possible.
Damn it, I keep forgetting about this kind of stuff... ehehehe... I bet you want to punch me now, eh?
