Honestly, it's been such a long time and such a journey since I started that if I Were to tell you to skip, I would have no idea where to suggest starting. If you can find the time and patience for it, I'd say try to endure it- if not, you can probably find someone better equipped to tell you a good starting point, and perhaps even fill you in on anything important that happens in the time you skip.

It took me about 2 weeks of non-stop reading (like 5 hours a day average) to catch up. So in that weekend you may only get to about Act 2, maybe 3 I'd say. Don't let that hurdle you, if action is what you want, its coming trust me. However if you also like brilliantly written story, characters, and comedy, then you should enjoy the beginning acts as well.

The first act or two are long and arduous, but necessary to get you used to how things work in the background. Gradually, he drops the concept of what is introduced in the beginning, and it starts to pick up rather quickly. When the kids start entering the game, you'll start wanting to keep reading. The beginning is not supposed to be fast and exciting, it's meant to be slow and introductory. Most good stories do something similar.
Though I must admit, Hussie did it a bit much in HS.

Yeah, read through it. It sets up the 'lore', if you want to call it that, although at this point the word doesn't really measure up to the sheer mass of what Hussie has produced. At any rate I didn't find the first act to be too boring, especially later in, it was just really hard to get into the workings of this comic. It's something else, I tell ya.
I almost never read it, but a friend re-introduced it to me last year and caught all the way up in three days. He then forced me through Act 1. I don't think I can ever look back.
PS: He says it helps to start by reading Problem Sleuth ( www.mspaintadventures.com/?s=4 ) first. I don't know if that's true but maybe we can make some science here.

Not the main point, but yes. Waiting is a pain.
If I could predict when the Gigapause would end, then I'd give you a date and tell you to get caught up by then - because the next day, the story would be finished. But I don't know when it ends, so all I can say is take your time and try not to forget everything by the time the Gigapause is over.
Personally, I'm going to reread the entire thing before getting to the new content, whenever it gets posted.
