Hmm, I disagree. Some characters, like Vegeta and Piccolo, actually were pretty interesting characters when you look at their growth throughout the series. And some characters are lovable enough without having a ton of depth to them, like Goku. The plot was good up until after Vegeta's sacrifice, as the story just seemed to be all over the place in that particular section of the series.

Yes, DBZ was simple, but that doesn't automatically make it bad. An anime doesn't have to be this complex, life-changing masterpiece in order to be good.

Of course DBZ will come off as "stupid" in comparison to more sophisticated anime, but that's because DBZ wasn't meant to be like those anime. Akira Toriyama is a gag writer at heart, so he wanted DBZ to be nothing more than a simple, fun series, and in a lot of people's eyes, they think DBZ succeeded in that.

These days, barely anyone hypes DBZ up all that much. It's criticized often by both fans and non-fans alike, with very few claiming that DBZ is some sort of masterpiece in writing.

But, I digress. We obviously share different views on the subject at hand, an arguing about it won't solve anything. Different strokes for different folks.

While that may be, I'll bring up my previous point stating that Toriyama wanted the series to be simple. He gave Vegeta and Piccolo some depth to them, yes, but not a whole lot because he wanted to focus on the simplistic nature of the series. That's why, in terms of depth, they do seem bland compared to others, but they make up for that by being characters that are both fun and memorable, which is what they Toriyama wanted them to be most of all.

It doesn't mean that a person is automatically less intelligent than you if they like DBZ, just that they can enjoy simple things, and perhaps complex things as well.
