Why didn't you name your dog Fran? Certainly she is much closer to a dog than Penelo, not mentioning that she is a little more interesting.
Great taste though I'm going to assume you like the game since you named your dog after a character

Well I got the dog as a surprise when my aunt took me to the pound to get her. I had to make a name on the spot and Fran wasn't the first character to come to mind. It is moreso based on her personality.

And yes. I love it. Unlike most of the FF community.

I wish I had a dog, I'd probably be even moe unimaginative and name it Brown or something.
It's so underrated, the community is weird.

It's because it was different.

Her original name was Abby, but I figured new life new name.

true, it probably won't go to actual trials within the next 2 years, but I'm hopeful. With proper funding, and the right team working on it at least, it could be worked out within the next 5-10 years. The gays deserve mini gays to i guess.

Did this news agency just went around doing random interviews to get these findings or did they actually based it on an actual journal publication? I can't really seem to find it.

And TBH, I seriously doubt anything even close to this will occur in two years - or even 10 years. Won't be really the speed of research or understanding, resistance will be most likely from political strife and personal beliefs holding things like this back.

But as a fellow molecular bio major here, I am actually most excited for the very last sentence they posted - how they claim to have discovered how to prevent epigenetic mutations. If this is true, it pretty much means very known mutation can be treated and its effects will last permanently so your kids will not get the mutation either.
User avatar
#144 - sandmansniper (11/03/2015) [-]
My degree is actually in molecular biology as well.

Their methods seem completely random. I didn't look very long (since I know this is a lay-man article), but I did not find a citation to a research article. So I'm instantly not trusting it.

Hypothetical question because two dudes having a baby: What would happen if something were to somehow get two Y-chromosomes and no X? I assume it's not a viable life form but how far along would it get and what would happen along the way?
User avatar
#142 - sandmansniper (11/03/2015) [-]
You can't have a human that is YY. It would most likely abort, if it even starts at all.
#88 - anon (11/03/2015) [-]
The whole point of the procedure is that it produces a perfectly viable xy/xx chromosomed embryo.
#91 - kingpongthedon (11/03/2015) [-]
Oh yeah, I get that, that's why it's a hypothetical question. I'm just curious as to what would happen if somehow you did get a YY combination.
#99 - torncerberus (11/03/2015) [-]
The cell wouldn't even replicate. Too many genes important to the basic functions of the cell rely on the first X chromosome. If a cell divided so it only got a y or got yy, it would be incapable of dividing at all. The only possible living cell that can survive like this is a sperm cell, and they have a very short lifespan because of it.

idk man, it's pretty plausible. We've made leaps and bounds with DNA recombnation. Who's to say we couldn't use crisprRNA to implant DNA into a gamete. Granted it would be difficult for men, it would have to result in only a female child most likely, but it is still a possibility. Within 2 years? no, but within the next 10? Definitely feasible.
User avatar
#46 - gcloud (11/03/2015) [-]
why would it be harder for men? u still have to pull two different sets of chromosomes, granted i dont know how it's done but i dont really see how it would be harder
User avatar
#149 - fitchy (11/03/2015) [-]
well for one you would likely need to find a surrogate which can run for about 100 grand, whereas in a female couple one of them could carry the child. Dnd then you would only really be able to get genetic material from both parents if it's a girl. Females attribute one of two X chromosomes to a gamete, whereas the male can give either an X or a Y chromosome. This gives a smaller amount of genetic material from one of the fathers unless they want a daughter, in which case they could both attribute an X chromosome carrying the majority of their genetic information. It's not necessarily harder, but definitely more of a pain in the ass.

I'm not saying this is impossible. I was just stating that this will 1. not happen in 2 years time, and 2. would probably result is HUGE complications, effectively scaring the target demographic away.

Shame too that same sex couples, much like normal couples are so insistent on having their own children when there is a disgustingly large number of children awaiting adoption. But hey, what do I know?

#145 - sandmansniper (11/03/2015) [-]
Yes. I can. and I am. It has nothing to do with my religion either, because I don't have a faith.

The natural order is as such, you either reproduce sexually, between two genders, or you reproduce asexually, through budding or other similar methods. You do not get to play with nature at it's fundamental level. If you want a baby, get a penis and vagina together and do it. Otherwise, stop griping. Gay people need to understand that their choice means when it is made.
