Mostly the "certain underage people scenes", massive turn off.

Also the plot looked really good on paper, but when you get in there it's just a gore fest mixed with somewhat slice of life with an ebarassing twist, ending is rushed and makes you think "wtf"

But, some people like some things and this was not my thing.

The issue with the plot is cause the anime is literally like, the first 1/3rd of the actual story and nothing more.

And the other 2/3rds are much more interesting than the first 1/3rd.

I read the manga completely before having watched the anime. The manga is much better simply because they actually finish the story.

I would recommend you to read the manga, as it has extra plot development, as the anime cut it in half.

The issue with recommending Evangelion is that the show is either a love or hate. For me there wasnt much good about the show besides the mech fights and being able to watch the abridged versions of the show afterwards. This is assuming you are talking about the original and not the movies.
