The Rebuilds have good highs for animation, soundtrack (although this is just great in itself) and visuals, but the insane amount of CG used is just despicable considering the insane profit they make.

i'll meet you on that point. you'd think with the millions they've made on the franchise in its entirety that they would be able to front the cost for some quality hand drawn animators. the cg is pretty to look at to be sure but it doesn't satisfy the way traditional pen to paper moving picture can

like i said, pretty to look at, but i miss nerv hq. i do have to admit that the aaa wunder took a step too far outside of the traditional though

Whole movie was pretty much a step outside of the traditional, but after a rewatch it was much less jarring. Albeit, I am very worried about the last movie.

you and me both. it's an entirely new precedent in the series. at least after 2.0 the audience thought they had an idea of what might happen next given that the rebuild had generally followed the original series up to that point. i'll always remember my first time watching 3.0 being marred by an atmosphere of general surprise and whatthefuckery. 4.0 has no anchor

Well, it's more so that there's way too much content to cover for one movie.

How are they going to fill us in on what happened the 14 years between 2.0 and 3.0? How are they going to wrap up all the unexplained bits such as the Adams, the First Ancestral race? How are they going to have more character development within all of this? There's just not enough time for all the loose threads they've put out there AND to have a movie with it's own story to finish the Rebuild tetralogy without cutting corners.

that's not to mention that despite the fact that they have to fit all of that into one film, they're still going to spend a good quarter of the movie focusing on shinji's deteriorating sanity

That would be if you consider several minute still shots of people not talking in elevators, Shogoki holding Kaworu, and liberal use of CG "beautiful".
#50 - sanbichemabob (10/10/2013) [-]
the silences are meaningful to say the least, given the events that lead up to them and the characters they're between. and as far as cg goes, that's really only applicable to the rebuild series. that being said, i do think it all comes together beautifully
