I watched him outright refuse two seven year olds an autograph because he needed to get his personal massage in between races (it was another two hours before his next race) at the Annapolis Christmas Meet, which wasn't even a large meet. All the other swimmers respected him and gave him space, but these two little kids were completely starstruck.
I've met other olympians who don't have a problem with it if you asked them on the sidelines for their autograph, and will do their best to encourage younger swimmers. He just was a general dick to all the little kids who looked up to him, which was rather disappointing. They walked away crying, no joke. Pic related, I sat on his warm up jacket by mistake.

No, no. It was a signing at a swim camp with like four kids in the room just saying hi. He just kind of acted like an ass, but he was cheery. It's not like I consider him to be a huge ass because there are way worse people than him and I've never really talked to him, but based on what my old coach said who trained alongside him in Austin and on what my teacher said who went to school with him, he probably is an ass.

Yes, but for you it is this individual event, for them it's a collective.
Imagine lifting and carrying wood all day, by the end of it, you are just chucking the pieces, not lifting and carrying them.
he gets recognized EVERYWHERE
he's an olympian, imagine you had people coming up to all the time going "can I shake your hand, can I get a picture, etc.

STOP WITH THE STUPID "FOR YOU IT'S AN INDIVIDUAL FOR THEM IT'S COLLECTIVE" BULLSHIT!
I get it! They have to watch their PR all the time. They always have to talk to people and sign autographs. I understand. For fuck's sake, though, being an Olympian doesn't make you a target for everybody! I have coaches that were Olympians! My current coach went to the Olympics for Puerto Rico. He lives a totally normal life.
So the fuck what? You can just politely say "no, I'm busy" to people who ask for shit and they'll understand. Celebrities that actually don't want fame can move to New York where nobody cares if you're famous or the middle of some place that nobody knows about like Idaho or Ohio or somewhere far from rabid paparazzi.

Yes, but there is a bit of a difference between being an Olympian 15-25 years ago is different than being the Olympic Gold Medalist, famous for the record breaking times 5 years ago and being a gold medalist again a year ago.
Not to mention at some point they will snap, everyone has bad days, I bet there are days that when people asked you stuff instead of politely saying "go away" or 'I'm busy" you said "buzz off" instead.
SO NO NEED TO BE A RAGING CUNT YOU STUPID TWAT
