well, my point was, that from all gun related crimes in us, only a very small portion has to do with (forgive me the term) "normal" people (those with no recorded criminal history etc.) be it mugging or homicide, and in almost none of those cases the person actually has a chance to protect him/herself, gun owner or not

I agree, I just wanted to point out how this topic has been blown way out of proportion in North America. That although some things need to be changed regarding guns. We could save a lot more lives by focusing on other leading causes of death that are neglected.

Considering the people who are trying to make that argument while being serious, i'd say it just wasn't clear enough that you were joking.
