Yeah, that's probably what they did. Find the circumference of the black hole, and divide it by the time it takes to make one rotation.

Actually, you can--just remember Calculus: If you zoom in on a curve, it starts to look like a straight line. So you can approximate the rotational speed of an object in terms of linear speed if you can calculate the speed of a point on the object's surface over a very short distance.

yeah, but it depends on the radius at which you're looking at. the tangential speed near the center -> 0, while the outside will go proportionally as r increases.

so there's no real way to objectively quantify rotational speed in terms of light years unless you're talking about a specific radius, in which case it's safe to assume the radius is the outside of the star.
