FLAC is lossless audio, but it's hard to tell the difference between FLAC and .mp3 if you don't use good headphones (or an amp).


If it's storage you're looking for, the sandisk sansa clip+ is pretty a pretty great deal, because it has microSD slots. It's especially good news, seeing as they're predicting a 64gb microSD card in the near future...

Another thing about the Ipod classic is that it uses a mechanical hard drive, which means that if you place it anywhere near a strong magnet, it'll fail completely, and it's a real hassle to replace.

as far as prices go, alienware's laptops are fairly standard, nothing particularly expensive about them. gaming laptops in general are more expensive because the hardware in them is more powerful, naturally. I've cross-referenced their prices with msi, dell(specifically, their XPS series), origin, and a handful of others, and everything's roughly the same price for the same specs. the best price was origin, but not by much. the only laptops on the market that are truly overly expensive are apple's macbooks.

I noticed you mentioned their keyboards, you should know that upgrading from standard to illuminated costs around $25.

mind you, never buy a desktop tower from alienware, that's a bad deal.

It's my first build, and as far as I am concerned, it is the ONLY way to go when it comes to a computer from now on. If I really need something portable, I've got my $400 Lenovo IdeaPad that does pretty much everything except extremely high-demand games.

I'm going to be travelling quite a bit for co-op work and I wanted to be able to take my gaming rig with me, so I ended up buying an alienware m14x. It's quite good, can play nearly anything. cooling's good enough to overclock too. ran me $1700 though. Once I graduate, I want to build a beast of a tower to game on at home.

Wait for Intel's Skylake CPUs if you can hold out that long.

Ivy Bridge is the tick of the new 22nm microarchitecture, Haswell is the tock, the die shrink of the Ivy Bridge CPU microarchitecture. Haswell is basically an improved Ivy Bridge. Broadwell is the tick of the new 14nm microarchitecture process, and Skymont is the improvement of the new 14nm process.
