At least I'm deploying, which is more than most AD Army soldiers can say. I'll probably switch over after I get back, then make E5 quick as fuck since I'll have ten times the experience of my active duty comrades.

bro, guard time doesn't mean nearly as much when you switch back into AD
#68 - rocketpropelledtit (07/17/2015) [-]
And yeah, but a deployment (even as NG) when surround by a bunch of bare-shouldered AD guys has value. NG has a much higher deployment rate also.

I am, but some of the real redneck areas of Alabama (Mobile) look like everyone is related. Everyone is blond and pale and there are like two last names. Birmingham, on the other hand, is pretty nice nowadays.

A quick exam is the HABCs (Hemorraging, airway, breathing and circulation for the curious non-medical folks following along) and the full body exam has BUDS (bleeding, urine, defacation, stuff) for the pelvic area, then you have DCAP BTLS for overall body (Deforminity/ discoloration, crepitus/contusions, abrasion/avulsion, penetration/punctures, burns, tenderness, lacerations, swelling) PEARL for the eyes (Pupils equal and reactive to light) and a few others I can't remember off the top of my head.

well damn, that's some seriously long lists you got there. My mom just completed a nursing program which included basic trauma/triage/emergency room care type things and i'm not sure even she had this many acronyms. Is there a jingle for it or is it just drilled into you until you hear it echoing in your dreams like general orders?
User avatar
#183 - dagold (07/10/2015) [-]
Pretty much drilled in. And those are just trauma assessments. Once you get into medical you have SOAP notes, OPQRST, SAMPLE and I don't even know what to call the paperwork for a battlefield patient since the abbreviation has probably changed twice since training.
User avatar
#185 - doggyfashion (07/10/2015) [-]
wait, they changed the paperwork twice? they haven't figured out a fill it out in quatrinket form that they can print off by the forest? I'd figure they'd have that together at least
User avatar
#187 - dagold (07/10/2015) [-]
It is more that they keep finding different ways to simplify it but make it more detailed every time. The one that had just become obsolete when I was in training was twice as long and detailed but half as efficient as the new one because it eliminated so much unnecessary writing by just putting two human body outlines to mark and describe injuries.
User avatar
#188 - doggyfashion (07/10/2015) [-]
okay, so it's less "we wanted to change things because we don't like the old stationary" and more "we actually had a better idea 2 seconds after we rolled the first set off the presses"

User avatar
#191 - doggyfashion (07/10/2015) [-]
lol i spent high school hanging around ww2 and vietnam vets in njrotc and did arotc for a semester, I am too familiar with military regulations and the redundant, often laughable but required nature of paperwork. The med forms for going into the college rotc's was a chore and a half, with electronic database this, paper form that, and every now and then a recruiter calling up to make sure you did that form that was due 2 weeks ago. the US Military: We say gallant things and have cool toys but we're only 70% sure of what we're actually up to

Yeah if their eyes aren't round that is kind of something we are going to notice.

#264 - rocketpropelledtit (07/13/2015) [-]
haha, I remember they said "we are actually going to put NPAs in because we had medics just taping them to people's cheeks in training until we got reports of that happening to real world casualties in the middle east."
User avatar

#266 - rocketpropelledtit (07/13/2015) [-]
I thought the same thing. Well, I just got my pre-deployment training schedule at drill today. Ever heard of BCT-3?
User avatar
#182 - doggyfashion (07/10/2015) [-]
well damn, that's some seriously long lists you got there.
User avatar
#188 - doggyfashion (07/10/2015) [-]
okay, so it's less "we wanted to change things because we don't like the old stationary" and more "we actually had a better idea 2 seconds after we rolled the first set off the presses"

too godamn true man, live by the regs, die by the regs. hey man, stay safe out there. lol i spent high school hanging around ww2 and vietnam vets in njrotc and did arotc for a semester, I am too familiar with military regulations and the redundant, often laughable but required nature of paperwork. The med forms for going into the college rotc's was a chore and a half, with electronic database this, paper form that, and every now and then a recruiter calling up to make sure you did that form that was due 2 weeks ago. the US Military: We say gallant things and have cool toys but we're only 70% sure of what we're actually up to

rocketpropelledtit dagold for the record, thanks for serving. Also, just a curiosity thing, do they still use the Big Boobs Should Fill Both Hands thing (for assessing injuries)? Or is that an old method? most the shit i know was from arotc 4 years ago, idk how much of it is relevant
#235 - rocketpropelledtit (07/10/2015) [-]
I've never heard that one before, wish woman weren't ruining the MOS. They can be Combat Engineers now, there's another MOS down the toilet.
User avatar
#167 - dagold (07/10/2015) [-]
Sadly no, though I would love using that analogy. Anything not super politically correct is now shot down because the army believes men are rape machines that will rape female soldiers at the slightest hint it is okay. I was I was kidding, a sergeant major actually went after two guys crossing the street behind to girls because they 'looked a little too rapey' following 15 feet back
User avatar
#169 - doggyfashion (07/10/2015) [-]
damn, i loved that acronym though! easy to remember, fun and always good for a laugh when we did basic evac training. By the way, if they stopped using that, what's the equivalent?
User avatar
#172 - dagold (07/10/2015) [-]
What did it stand for? There are a few were were taught and if the letters were rearranged it isn't clicking for me.
User avatar

Breathing, Blood, Shock, Fractures, Burns, Head injury. Basically, how to assess the patient quickly and determine the best response. I'm sure this is a very basic version of assessment too
User avatar
#179 - dagold (07/10/2015) [-]
A quick exam is the HABCs (Hemorraging, airway, breathing and circulation for the curious non-medical folks following along) and the full body exam has BUDS (bleeding, urine, defacation, stuff) for the pelvic area, then you have DCAP BTLS for overall body (Deforminity/ discoloration, crepitus/contusions, abrasion/avulsion, penetration/punctures, burns, tenderness, lacerations, swelling) PEARL for the eyes (Pupils equal and reactive to light) and a few others I can't remember off the top of my head.
#260 - rocketpropelledtit (07/11/2015) [-]
PERRL (pupils, equal, round, reactive to light)
User avatar
#267 - dagold (07/13/2015) [-]
I haven't, no. My battalion has been doing pre-deployment training at AT
#268 - rocketpropelledtit (07/13/2015) [-]
It's usually held at Fort Sam. They take a goat, give it anaesthetics, lacerate some of it's arteries (like femoral in the inguinal area) and then tell you to save it. Don't tell PETA though, haha.
User avatar
#269 - dagold (07/13/2015) [-]
I was told they had stopped doing that because PETA shit their pants so hard the collective force powered connecticut for a week.
#270 - rocketpropelledtit (07/13/2015) [-]
Well, now you sign an extensive non-disclosure agreement immediately before the training. It's still the best experience at teaching real hemorrhage control. If 1,000 goats have to die to save one soldier, it's fine by me. I don't get how people can value any number of animal lives over a human life.

If that roll contest thing was legitimate my steam profile is steamcommunity.com/id/Neivias/
PayDay2 would be pretty cool or, since I believe you said something about adding more games, Counter Strike Global Offensive would be great if that happened to be added.
I feel like an ass getting free stuff

Standalone ShoC remake made by Dezowave.
It's pretty great, but it feels so empty (not a lot of secret loot spots, very few npcs wandering outside, cheap jumpscares that pose no threat).
It has a bit of custom voice acting, includes cut zones, everything is different.

Tried it for 5 minutes, game started crashing every time I started a new game.
I'll possibly try it in the future, but now I am replaying the classic ShoC, it's so great.
I've already explored CoP/CS and I know everything about them, it's simply not as much entertaining as it was before.

Simply because I don't know how to explain to my 'friends' that I just didn't want to talk to them so I stayed offline.

But I can add you on Steam.
