I wouldn't say it's an equation, but a standard.

"if the number at the end doesn't match the equation, then they aren't a lady"
I tend to look at it this way: ladyship is definitely a high bar. If they fall short of it then, yes, they are not a lady. Mind you, It's not about nitpicking every tiny mistake someone makes, but about major breaches of the code / acting in ways completely opposite to lady-like behavior.

Besides, being an atheist gave an aversion towards obscurantism and mysticism. If my definition is too mathematical as you say it is from your perspective, then I certainly won't mind it being that way.

Maybe it is that nostalgia towards past memories and past ages is enhanced the more vague the memories are, or the more blurry our conception of those past ages is. That I do not know for certain.

At any rate and sadly, none of this matters since ladies don't exist anymore.
I will raise my unborn daughters to this lofty ideal of excellence, and tell them to settle for nothing less than true gentlemen. But other than, ladyship doesn't exist anymore.

Well there you have it then. My definition/description is too detailed and too accurate to leave any room for mystery. I find that having a thorough understanding of a thing is more appreciative of it and does it justice more than being in awe of its mystery.

Your definition isn't too detailed, its too mathematical. Like there's an equation for being a lady, and despite the variables you allow, if the number at the end doesn't match the equation, then they aren't a lady

Could this feeling be stemming from the fact that society stopped raising ladies decades ago?
So what I'm talking about seems too ideal or theoretical and like I'm talking about something that can no longer exist in the real world. Like I might as well be talking about unicorns or leprechauns.
It may be the fact that you've never met a lady in real life (b/c they're extinct) that makes you a bit uncomfortable when you read it my comment.
#9 - rimjobmcgee (12/22/2014) [-]
No, I think its the opposite, it isn't that your definition of a lady is too unimaginable, but that your idea of a lady is the same as mine, except without a quality I can't quite name that mine has. I agree with what you say, and that society has erred in what is a lady for sometime, its just something about how you say it and describe it lacks a certain wanderlust or freedom or mystery. Like I said, I don't disagree with you at all, maybe its your description is too mathematical feeling if that makes sense
