Well yes. But he is still a god of Olympus. Besides just because he lives in the underworld doesn't mean that he doesn't to things such as meetings or gathering on Mount Olympus.

Hades didn't live on Olympus, so technically he's not a god of Olympus. Otherwise I agree.
User avatar #34 - indecisivejew (04/23/2014) [-]
That's the thing about the movie though. He's only a bad guy in terms of the plot.

The best villains in the world are the ones who you like more than the protagonists, and in this movie, that is definitely the case for most people.
User avatar #27 - samxdaxman (04/23/2014) [-]
This is what pissed me off the most in the Percy Jackson movie. They didn't have Kronos as the main enemy, like in the books, but HADES was the bad guy. Like creativity is great and all, but changing the MAIN VILLAIN of the series is just ridiculous.
User avatar #78 - Tyranitar (04/23/2014) [-]
Hades was thought to be the antagonist for most of the first book, but was later found out to have his own agenda. Not necessarily an evil one, but he wasn't truly a good guy either.

The actual villain was Ares, which makes far more sense. Feeding off of hatred and conflict, Ares would have a lot to gain from making the gods go to war with each other. Kinda ticked me off that he wasn't even mentioned in the film.
User avatar #91 - samxdaxman (04/23/2014) [-]
I thought he was being controlled by Kronos or some shit? I know Luke was as well, but idk, I thought that made sense. Yours makes a lot more sense though.
User avatar #92 - Tyranitar (04/23/2014) [-]
Luke WAS being controlled by Kronos. But Kronos and Luke manipulated Ares into the whole Lightning Thief scam because he was sick of the peaceful times in Olympus and would enjoy the conflict the idea would result in.
#30 - marikthegunslinger (04/23/2014) [-]
Thank the pantheon that Hades got some more respect in the later books. His son is my favorite character in the series.
User avatar #32 - samxdaxman (04/23/2014) [-]
Nico is pretty damn cool. And yeah Hades isnt a bad guy, a bit jealous of his brothers, but he's not bad.
User avatar #39 - pokedan (04/23/2014) [-]
Also Nico is now confirmed as gay. Go figure.
User avatar #54 - samxdaxman (04/23/2014) [-]
Yeah, I was genuinely surprised at that part. But he's still pretty badass.
User avatar #21 - avatardsucks (04/23/2014) [-]
well in the original Hercules myth, his step-mother Hera the goddess of marriage was the main villain. Hera made Hercules go crazy and kill his wife and kids because she was jealous of Hercules being the love child of an affair Zeus(her husband) had with another woman. Hercules felt so guilty about murdering his wife that he had to do a bunch of labors to atone for his crime. Overall Disney thought this story was dark so they instead turned Hercules into more of a Superman/Rocky kind of story and made Hades the villain since hes the king of the underworld which is scarier than the Goddess of marriage.
User avatar #74 - kievaughnb (04/23/2014) [-]
So he's a bit like Kratos in God of War?

i guess so, never really played the games.
User avatar #89 - riddlerenigma (04/23/2014) [-]
The first game plays like a Greek Tragedy while 2 and 3 were based completely on wanting revenge. And the PSP games were that happened in the middle.

Have a rare gem of a good fanfiction to fill that unnecessary villain void.

As a society in modern times, we fear death because we don't know what is on the other side. Fear of something assumes that whatever it is has to be evil. Where in ancient Greek days, death was viewed differently along with Hades. He may also have a bad reputation because of the whole "kidnapping Persephone thing" but if you think about it; she willingly went every year. He just got the shit end of the stick when it came to realms to rule over.

Cronos isn't exactly evil either. None of the Gods were truly seen as purely good or purely evil. Then again, it was all perspective to which City-State you were in. People of a Zeus worshiping city may have demonized Hades where as a city that worshiped Hades would have thought the same about Zeus. Humanity never changed if you think about it
User avatar #90 - riddlerenigma (04/23/2014) [-]
If that is the case then I think Disney could have been a bit clever here and put in Thanatos the true Greek god of death here and make him the bad guy for once. Hades gets a lot of attention in media here enough as it is so it would have been nice to have changed things round a bit here.
User avatar #28 - angelious (04/23/2014) [-]
in terms of mythology hades(while not as bad as modern day media makes him seem like) was sort of a douchebag(still as far as greek mythology goes he was a pretty cool guy) he tried to usurp zeus atleast twice along side other gods(zeus wasnt so hot amongst gods but he still had powerfull allies) he fooled persephone to come down to his realm and then CURSED her so that she had to return to her every now and then(hence comes the winter) (they did love each other thou if i recall correctly)

cronos and titans in general were actually far more benevolent gods when compared to zeus and crew.they actually liked humans and were fair.but like father like son cronos was afraid of his kids and tried to make sure none of them would ever usurp him(this caused zeus to usurp him)

also as far as shit goes zeus was the ultimate douchebag of greek mythology
#12 - matthewonetwothree (04/23/2014) [-]
are all of your thoughts on greek mythology from the percy jackson books?
User avatar #88 - riddlerenigma (04/23/2014) [-]
No. Most of it comes from either.

A: The legitimate stories of the Greek Pantheon
B: God of War mythos.
C: Age of Mythology Mythos.

I don't know where you're getting your information from, but it's incorrect. They were called French fries (and many other names) long before Paris, Texas was even established.

Another story of their naming origin is that when British and American soldiers were in Europe during WW1, they mistook Belgium for France, and called them French fries.
User avatar #29 - mymommasallama (04/23/2014) [-]
what makes this all the funnier is in texas and some other states after 9-11 there was a big movement to call them freedom fries since france did not want to go to war alongside us....

No. Suicide bombings are designed to instill as much damage and panic as possible.
User avatar #165 - hammarhead (04/08/2014) [-]
....that is also the exact goal of an artillery strike.
User avatar #188 - dafuqmang (04/08/2014) [-]
No the goal of an artillery strike is to take out dangerous targets that a human can't. The heavy shit. Like tanks. Someone WOULD try to shoot a tank down by themselves.

Spoiler: they can't. Things about those things we have now: when a suicide bomber tried to blow up one of the Abrams across seas, he ended up not even scratching it, and instead painting it pink. And the old method of throwing Molotovs at the back vent doesn't work because the back vent of an M1 Abrams is hotter than the molotov's flame.
User avatar #199 - hammarhead (04/10/2014) [-]
I was talking light artillery, especially on bunkered down enemies. There's a reason it's called shell shock.

Thumbs up for knowing the exact ride... I was at Alton towers the opening weekend of this thing and used the fact all the saps were lining up for this for 3 hours to jump on every big attraction then had 34353 times. (never had to wait longer then 10 minutes for any ride)

It was a good day... We me and a buddy stayed over night but our room got mixed up and we ended up spending a night in the me to you bear room. Shit was pretty gay...
