I don't know if you know this, but people only get mad at tumblr fags when they use literally when we are already told about the action and they add the literally so it seems like they're trying to intensify the action. In this case, we were not told that she threw her leg at the man before they added the literally into the sentence, so you're getting mad at someone because they used the word correctly.
#163 - wagastragas (05/06/2014) [-]
you are one of those people that "literally" follow wagons around.
User avatar #27 - hellomynameisbill (05/06/2014) [-]
the term "literally" means that the specified subject actually happened. and in the context of the story, It seems likely that it literally happened considering how mundane it would've been if it were metaphorical.

please tell me, how can you "figuratively" or throw your prosthetic leg at someone?
User avatar #49 - raginglolsquid (05/06/2014) [-]
The fact that you have a prosthetic leg could be something to "throw" at the person as a tool to make that person feel bad. That wouldn't be literally throwing it, but using the word to convey "I have a prosthetic leg and used that fact to make the person guilty."

Obviously not something that one would say, but you can figuratively throw your prosthetic leg at someone.
User avatar #30 - godofal (05/06/2014) [-]
that's exactly the fucking point, there is no figuratively throwing your prostethic leg at someone
it's not that he's using the word wrong, it's that he's using it in a sentence where it's unnecessary
User avatar #31 - hellomynameisbill (05/06/2014) [-]
it doesn't seem unnecessary since he's using it as an emphasis in a correct manner. it really happened, and he's clarifying it to make it seem slightly more believable.
#34 - adamks (05/06/2014) [-]
I agree that it isn't wrong, it's just kind of stupid. Like it makes sense when you say something like, there literally was a cow on the ice, because this also has a figurative meaning. You don't ever say "She threw her prostetic leg at him" figuratively. That doesn't happen. Therefore, saying literally in that sentence, while correct, is unneccesary.

#123 - adamks (05/06/2014) [-]
I didn't mean to sound elitist. I just expanded on how I think the word works.
#24 - Ken M (05/06/2014) [-]
but she actually did trow the leg , so he used it right .
User avatar #169 - buttinspecter (05/06/2014) [-]
True. It's just that using "literally" is only necessary when a statement is just as likely to be assumed figuratively. In this case, figuratively throughing a prosthetic leg doesn't make much sense, so "literally" is unnecessary.
User avatar #124 - zomitlu (05/06/2014) [-]
This probably didn't happen anyway
#45 - Ken M (05/06/2014) [-]

Using it in a sentence that didn't need it isn't using it right. It's not using it wrong.

Britfag here, I've heard quite a few American's pronounce is as "twot" but it does certainly seem accent based, although I won't even pretend to know about the different accents, I'd imagine it's quite like us, not simply a typical london cockney or posh/upper class accent but a large array of multiple accents and quirks across the board. (I'm from norfolk myself and I pronounce it quite sharp, especially on both t's)

P.S, for those of you that don't know, norfolk is essentially the rural area, with the pig shit and the farms and all the markets, I have a friend to the south who laughs at me every time we skype because I sound like a country bumpkin.
