Fuck you, it doesn't make you cool to like outmoded garbage. Also, to feel nostalgia for a time period, you have to have lived through the time period, you fucking walrus.

he jus.. he just called that guy a walrus?

What if I like old bands that don't get a lot of recognition? Like Marillion, Fish (old lead singer of Marillion made his own band), and Genesis, just to name a few?
Also, Driver caps and leather bomber jackets are fucking awesome, I don't care what anyone says.

There's a difference. You like them because you like the music, not because it makes you look cool or because it's old.

And I can guarantee listening to G.G. Allen would NOT make me look cool.
At one concert he shoved bananas in his ass and threw them at the audience. I think it was in a college lecture room.

I know a hipster couple and they don't think act pretentious at all. They're some of the sweetest and kindhearted people I've ever met. They just like some of that old school stuff. I think hipster style is kinda neat, when used correctly, and not trying to be edgy or different. It's their own style. I definitely think some of the older stuff is kinda cool.

It's a preoccupation with style, and I don't abide by that.

I don't understand why people hate hipsters so much. I rather like hipsters and think they're pretty cool.

And don't generalize and say "They hate the mainstream" because thats only a small percentage.

That's not the problem, the stuff the internet says isn't the stuff that's problematic. The fact is, the culture is one of people begging for attention. People need acknowledgement, and hipsters go about it in a shitty way by assigning themselves to obscure, outdated shit--and I do mean shit--and claiming that it's far better than shit that isn't shit. They do it so people think they're interesting, so they get attention. It's cultural masturbation.

What a comeback.

Its not a comeback. Its a legitimate question. Sure, you can hate on a certain social culture for doing something you don't like, for example. I hate emos because I feel as if emos are seeking attention themselves. But do I say that emos are definitively "shit"? No. Because I know there are going to be cultures I don't like that others will like and that I'm going to have to deal with that.

I say they're shit because they choose appearance over substance. They use these things, fickle and odd and unfeeling, to take the place of a personality. Style does not a person make. I don't hate the people who look like hipsters, or who like old things, I hate people who have nothing else. That's a fucking hipster.
User avatar

Now you're just making blanket statements then. Just because you've met shit hipsters doesn't mean hipster culture is shit. And "choose appearance over substance." 90% of the hipsters I've met choose their appearance based on their substance (i.e. what they like). "I hate people who have nothing else." So you don't hate hipsters. You hate shallow people.

Hipsters are shallow people. How's that for a blanket statement?
#43 - anon (01/21/2014) [-]
Many of the "normal" people are shallow people , they all look and like the same and even think the same.
The almost only real "cool" or well .."interesting" people i met are at least kind of in touch with all the hipster stuff, even is they aren't one , they have hipster friends or are in location (bar , club etc.) where mostly hipsters are.
Not saying Hipsters or anyone else is better but they at least look good, that's something.
But yes there are one who just fuck it up with teir "oh my goooad i'm sp special and cool" bullshit, but that goes for every social culture.

Yeah, because it's worth doing something just to be different.
#74 - agentpurplek (01/21/2014) [-]
Knackie and the onionyrogue I think you both just have different definitions of hipsters...

Onionyrogues definition of a hipster is how they act in a faggoty way that no one likes

Knackies definition of a hipster is someone who is genuinely looking through past decades and appreciating different parts of the cultures.

A very good example of a blanket statement.
