camslayer, vikafenryka,
i have wanted to be a GM for quite some time, but i don't really know how to make a setting. i know it's hard work considering how objectively crazy players can be, especially if they're suspicious of the GM, do you have any tips? like worldbuilding, storylines, NPC info, descriptions, amazing traps (i have one in mind already) and what would be considered out of bounds for some GMs but considered intuitive to others?
in exchange, i'll share a little thing i've been working on. it's a method of calculating the difficulty of battle 1v1 and team on team, even should work for pvp. instead of taking like 6 months (as the original difficulty rating did), it took me less than a day. i've done some minor tweaks once in a while.

I'm looking at it from a game mechanic standpoint. Really, any ruling becomes moot if the GM wills it. My usual GM allows a lot of extra equipment, companions, skills, etc if your background fluff is to his liking.

If becoming a Lich works the same as being a class, then you would lose Lich abilities till you became evil again, but what do I know.
User avatar #40 - rawesome (04/17/2015) [-]
Lich is just a template in pathfinder giving dr 15/magic + bludgeoning, +2 mental stats (I think), a negative touch attack, a paralyzing touch attack, +5 natural armor, removing con score and substituting it with charisma (as for any undead), giving immunity to spells with a fort save (as for any undead), healed by negative energy and damaged by possitive (as for any undead), fear aura and ofcourse the ability to regenerate from any kind of death in 1d10 days at the lich's Phylactary.

The allignment requirement is any evil, because actually becoming a lich is supposed to involve some nasty ass shit GM discretion but a paladin for example might become a lich because it serves some greater purpose. Alternatively a lich could redeem itself and in the end become lawful good.

TLR Lich is a template and not a class so it doesn't work the same way as an ex pala or ex monk

Fair enough
User avatar #37 - redstonealchemist (04/17/2015) [-]
that's a good point, but i reckon a laid back enough GM would allow opposite powers like the difference between a paladin and an antipaladin.
of course because of the insane boosts liches have, i'd still have to suffer like all the negatives of being undead, but also weakness to undead as well, etc.

No? That's seriously how Constantinople fell. Some idiot left a gate open. The city was surrounded by water on all but one side, which would be great if it wasn't such a wide point that was walled off and being defended against, and they had Greek fire and the Ottoman ships just could not get through to the walls on the sea side, and their cannons didn't do shit to the walls.

It took just shy of 2 months of siege with the Ottomans claiming between 50,000 and 80,000 and other sources ranging from 160,000 to 300,000. I'd assume both exaggerate in their favor and it's closer to 100,000. They had 126 ships, most of which were for rowing troops across, and 70 cannons. One of which took 4 hours to reload, 60 oxen to haul, and 400 men to operate, and could fire a 600 pound stone cannonball over a mile.

Meanwhile Constantinople had 7000 combatants, which consisted of roughly 3000 being well trained, and the rest being somewhat trained guards, armed citizens, and monks. The losses for Constantinople were proportionally heavy, 4,000 dead, though that included the civilians slaughtered. Meanwhile there's no official number on how many Ottomans died.

Apparently the soon-to-be Sultan didn't want his literally crowning victory to be tarnished by telling people how many had to die for him to beat a tiny force. And I do mean his crowning achievement. He and his brothers were competing to be named heir, which is why the Ottoman Empire was better at being successfully led if you ask me.

Anyway, so the gate is left open, either by a traitor or the man who beat himself up about that one brain fart for the rest of his (possibly short) life, more than anybody in recorded history for being single handedly responsible for the end of not only the last of the Roman Empire, but also ending the Medieval time period. The last emperor of Rome, ever removes his purple regalia and leads one final cavalry charge into the ensuing enemy to buy time for his people, and is never seen again. Not even paraded by the enemy.

All in all, it's one of my favorite stories from history, and in no way would I taint it by referencing any media, when history has portrayed quite literally one of the greatest "against all odds" stories I've ever heard.
User avatar #66 - redstonealchemist (04/17/2015) [-]
that was magnificently told, thank you.
i only asked because the entire conflict in skyrim about the stormcloaks vs the empire happened solely because one dumbass let out a war criminal through the front gate by mistake.

I make anti-paladins all the time. My last one died in battle and was brought back by a lich, but had amnesia and thought he was still a paladin. User avatar #33 - redstonealchemist (04/16/2015) [-]
for this example, let's use a long-sleeved shirt with a rounded neck. v-necks will not be suitable, especially v-necks for women.
place your face into the neck hole with the shirt inside out, while your hair line is not visible, guide the front of the shirt over your head, this will now be known as teh back part.
after this, guide the left sleeve around the back and secure with a pin of some sort to the right side near your neck. do the same around the front for the right side, pin to the left near your neck.
if done right, while looking in the mirror, you should see your entire face, even as far back as the neck, but no more than 5mm of hair line. the less hair shown, the better the result. should stay for several hours with proper care. avoid rigorous activities with this design.
for further stability, attach to the hair line with a pair of bobby pins. this design is not as effective as a proper hijab. this is best used in an emergency.
