Try checking out Sunlight Straightsword or Lothric Knight Sword.
I'm using Sunlight Straightsword at the moment with a refined infusion, and it kicks ass.
It's pretty near endgame, though, and Lothric Knight Sword can drop much earlier from Lothric Knights.

There's also some twinswords that go very well with quality builds called Gotthard Twinswords.

I'm more of a curved sword guy myself, running a dex/luck hallow bleed build. I can't really help you there, but there can never be a single best. Each straight sword has its own moveset, reach, stamina consumption, damage, auxiliary effect, weapon art, requirements, etc. Find what you are most comfortable with and what suits your needs.

With the exception of freak cases like the ladle in DS2, every single weapon in every souls game is perfectly viable. With the ridiculous amount of infusions in DS3 compared to the other games, nearly every weapon can be used by every build.

Just check out the scaling adjustments. If you have the bare minimum stats for your weapon, definitely go elemental, because elemental removes all scaling (Except lightning in 3, it scales on faith [I think]). If you're dropping mad points into a scaling stat, then definitely don't remove that scaling. For example, I used the Exile Greatsword on my first run and dumped like 40 points into dex. Sharp enchant increases dex scaling, and I was doing over 400 damage per hit in raw damage.

Can't go wrong with a Refined infusion if you're doing a quality build. Str/Dex scaling. Rocking an Estoc/Target shield, a good half of my kills come from the ripostes. Gundyr's Halberd is fun to use though, try it out fam.

My opinion is that it depends on your stat investment. If you're int based, you want crystal. If you're faith based, you want lightning or holy. If you're strength based, you want heavy or no enchant. If you're dex, you want sharp. If you're not investing into any of those, you likely want chaos, fire or lightning. Poison on a bleed weapon could be annoying, but have not tested.

Early game, raw or fire, anything that boosts damage.

Near midgame, the "boosts damage no scaling" infusions start trailing off, so you swap out for ones that do scale, like Sharp or Heavy, or whatever fits your weapons, like Chaos.

Refined is the strongest overall, but it actually takes away some of the base damage, so you need very high stats for the scaling to make up for the damage loss.
User avatar
#74 - kyrozor (04/25/2016) [-]
Refined with stats
Raw early - midgame, you can have just enough stats to wield a weapon but raw upgraded you can legit focus on end/vit/etc and get absolutely huge before going into dex/str because you just can't die and have so much stamina.

#71 - sirfapaton (04/25/2016) [-]
I think they're all useful in their own ways. Depends on the build I'm doing what infuse I'm gonna use. Hell, even Raw is pretty good.
The only ones I don't especially like are: fire & deep but I could still imagine them being useful on a lvl1 run because of they don't care about your stats.
#75 - justmadethisaccoun (04/25/2016) [-]
Yeah fire and deep are only useful early game when the stats are bad.

As a "hex build" with 50 Int/Faith, Chaos works amazingly for me since it adds fire damage that scales off both of them.
