Yeah the ending wasn't bad. I predict that the game after the next one will be centered around finding cortanna again. That's what I'd do. Some kind of filler crisis in between with the arbiter. Maybe a Human Covenant splinter group or some kind of rebellion or civil war

It explains the didact in a few of the cutscenes before they meet him I think. Cortana overhears the covenant on the radio or some shit.

When you crash on Requium there's a terminal thingy on the Covenant ship that repeats "Didact" over and over. That's how they know.
Also, there's a SAW and a sniper rifle in that area if you can find them.
