I completely agree. Any character that has invincibility or invulnerability is kind of boring. I mean, Wolverine has WAY more problems with his character than just that but that's the main reason I can't ever get into his comics; I feel no tension when I read it.

Hey, you leave supes alone. If you want to poke holes in something, pick doomsday.
User avatar #57 - redblueyellow (03/19/2014) [-]
Sorry, I wasn't trying to hate on superman, but I thought that if I would say that DC has no indestructible heroes, everyone would point out superman as the abvious one.

Doomsday is overpowered to, but for a bad guy I think its okay, since that creates tension. How is Batman going to "beat" Darkside when he's so obviously outmatched. We all know superman and the others are going to beat darkseid or doomsday, but they might die or get hurt in some bad way in the proces. Wolverine could be gang raped by darkseid and doomsday and he would just get up as if nothing happened. Hailtotheking is right, there's no tension in that.
User avatar #50 - HailtotheKing (03/19/2014) [-]
He does have a point though. There is actually a writing term called "Superman Syndrome" where you crate a character SO powerful that you have to come up with ridiculous ways of even harming him.

Sure, Superman has Kryptonite but if every villain uses that they it gets boring. So writers come up with amazingly overpowered antagonists (Like Doomsday or Darkseid) just to be able to damage him.
User avatar #53 - congthea (03/19/2014) [-]
Yeah, but with the overpowered heroes instead of adding immense villains for them to fight, you hit them with grief and disastrous outcomes like what happened in Injustice. Just because a hero is so powerful, it doesn't mean you only have to create even more powerful villains.
User avatar #54 - HailtotheKing (03/19/2014) [-]
Conflicts within the character it's self are always interesting but it doesn't deny the fact that when a character is near invincible the other character in the story are really nothing in comparison unless you break the rules. You called out Doomsday specifically but I honestly think he was the best way to kill of Superman the first time. He was alien, an organism that spent it's entire life being killed over and over again to create an unstoppable death bringer. He too was invincible to a degree and both of them ended up killing each other.

Now take another character in the DC universe, literally any Batman villain. Most of them lack any real power (especially any to kill Superman) and they are no real threat to him. They have no weight or impact because he use his own powers to apprehend them.

I can see where you are coming from just from a story telling standpoint it's an awful thing to do. It removes any tension from any of your stories connected to the universe. Once you establish that death is not permanent then any and all risk is gone.

Take, for example, a comic like Sin City. The characters get shot, run over, beaten and tortured. They do things that a normal human probably wouldn't be able to do but it is very clear that death is ever present and it is a permanent end to a character. In X-men it's blatant that the writers want to create the illusion of tension by having death present but don't want to commit to an actual character death. They come up with these contrived and exhausting ways of bringing a character back to life just so nothing is final and they can keep writing in the same way as before.

#74 - thechosentroll (03/19/2014) [-]
Frankly, I'm surprised they don't pull Deadpool moments. I mean, if you know you can't die, why not make the best of it? Fuck death! And then fall in love with her and spend years trying to kill yourself until the writers get bored of it and make you silly again.
User avatar #46 - redblueyellow (03/19/2014) [-]
That's exactly the reason I don't really like Wolverine as a superhero. I mean, yeah, he's badass, but he's almost impossible to kill with his healing factor and adamantium skeleton and I even heard he has some thing going on with Hell that when he dies he just goes there and walks back out as if nothing happened.

This is one of the reasons I like DC better, since they overall have less overpowered-deathdoesn'tmeanshit-heroes ok ignoring superman

maul and his brother basically took control using the death watch as puppets, and later killed the leader of the death watch

then palpatine got wind that maul was alive and took his own apprentice, so he traveled there and killed maul's brother and did his evil sith thing

Didn't Force Unleashed say that Palpatine planned the founding of the Rebel Alliance to root out enemies of the Empire? Fuck that
User avatar #272 - redblueyellow (03/12/2014) [-]
That was a little far fetched indeed. As if he had this huge plan from the beginning to make someone create the rebels so all his enemies were somewhat known to him. It would be more believable that later on he found out Starkiller/marek was practically founding the alliance and that palpatine just went with it, instead of stopping it.

But yeah the whole palpatine planning like a million years ahead thing for everything is getting a little bit old (Clone wars, Anakin, letting the bothans get info on the death star, making clones of himself).

Is the force unleashed series canon? Because things are getting really confusing. Because the clone wars series are fucking the canon so goddamn much I don't even know anymore. In season 6 yoda goes to dagobah there he sees the future and sees shaak ti being killed by a lightsaber, like in the original cut for the revenge for the sith. But in force unleahed she commits suicide by throwing herself at a sarlaac after she is defeated by Starkiller.
User avatar #199 - redblueyellow (03/12/2014) [-]
I'd consider it as canon, since it doesn't change or add really big things. It explains why the rebels formed but other than that it doesn't really have anything else of importance for the movies or the expanded universe.
#267 - 4chan refugee (03/12/2014) [-]

i consider the forced unleashed more cannon because it shows the rise of the rebellion and how they even got their emblem. The clone wars tv show barely gives us any important cannon to my knowledge.

That's the main reason I hate the Clone Wars tv series, one of the major reasons Traviss didn't write any more books is because Lucas Arts wanted her to change the story to mesh with the pussy ass "mandalorians" from the show
User avatar #309 - redblueyellow (03/06/2014) [-]
When I saw those epidosed I was always hoping that the Daeth Watch would win, since they mostly resembled the mandalorians in the book. It really didn't make any sence, pacifist mandalorians. That's like Russia without vodka. Outside of the show it's never even implied mandalore had a pacifist ruler, so the ones who came up with the idea obviously didn't read any of the books (traviss's or any other).

Good work my minion. You have pleased me quite a bit. It does not matter if her 'talent' and 'emotion' are no longer a part of her then that does not matter. Be sure to grab Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner as well. We could use their fan bases to 'capture' more members.

As for the spy, good job, but work quickly. We do not want this spy to spread the word about what we were up to, now do we?

I apologize for not being easy to reach, as I do not frequent this site very often. I shall make note to check it every day. What I do use more often is Skype or MSN. I tend to use these forms of communication daily. As well as websites other than this one.
User avatar #3 to #2 - redblueyellow (12/12/2011) [-]
I shall collect their souls master.

Master, I have important news. I have discovered our spy. I was horrified to find out, but not completely surprised. It was none other then one of ou own, one among the council: Ron Weasley.
What should I do with him, my master?
User avatar #4 to #3 - trollsinmycloset (12/14/2011) [-]
Good job my loyal Soul Taker. I have found that I can rely on you quite well these days. You have done well.

As for Ron Weasley, the council shall seek to confront him on this matter. Shall the council feel that punishment is necessary, they shall do as they see fit. If he was only spying to learn information, that will be fine, he will never leave the organization with that information... But if he had been spying with the intent of spreading information about the inner workings of the cult, then he shall be taken care of.

Go forth, my pet. Make me proud. >:)
User avatar #5 to #4 - redblueyellow (12/19/2011) [-]
Master, I started my hunt for he who is called Taylor Lautner. However, due to leaked information, he knew I was coming, so he fled to Peru. It is quite difficult to locate him here, for he has hid himself between the alpaca's. It is quite a challenge to keep him apart from these animals. However, I will catch him, do not worry. I will not fail.

What is the progress in the Weasly case, my lord?
User avatar #6 to #5 - trollsinmycloset (12/23/2011) [-]
Weasley has been found guilty of betraying the High Counsel. He is to be stripped of his honour and his position. He will be confined in our dungeons for some time while we repair for a memory re-write and a reassignment of his talents.

As for Taylor Lautner, keep going strong my pet. I know that you are the only one who can accomplish this task. *kisses cheek* I trust you will use your enthusiasm at my pleased disposition to work towards completing your assignments. Be quick my pet. :)
User avatar #1 - trollsinmycloset (12/06/2011) [-]
Thank you very much, my minion. I am quite pleased. While cleansing a soul is difficult, I am required to know how to perform such a task for my post as Soul Keeper.
One day, when you are more experienced and well trained, you shall learn this technique as well.
