Well, if you really want it that bad. I don't know if you know this, but you can also become a vampire lord if you join the dawnguard. You can ask Serana to turn you into one. So if the only reason you joined Harkon was to become a vampire lord you might as well restart, because you can be a vampire lord and fuck bitches up with the crossbow if you join the dawnguard. I think the only reason to join the vampires is of you really want to go all out with the vampirelord thing. Joining the vampires will get you some handy jewelry for when you are in vampire mode, but other than that the dawnguard has more benefits. At least for me.

If you talk to Elisef (Don't know how to spell her name, but she's the Jarl of Solitude.), she tells you that Torygg might have stood up to the Empire/Thalmor if Ulfric asked him to. She also tells you that Torygg respected Ulfric greatly because of his defiance to the Empire.
