There has been no conclusive evidence that mandela was ever involved with planting bombs. His organization took a more extreme turn after he started it.
I have seen no such statement from anyone. Even if such a source exists, it could have easily been manipulated by the government at the time.
There was no "crippling" of the country, and the living standards werent "vastly" lowered. As a matter of fact, the average living standard was increased for the south african. The only one i can think of that was slightly lowered was the whites of the country, who had lost all their priveleges they had over blacks. His socialist economic helped make the economy more fair.
He did get rid of the apartheid, and that was very huge. He may not be a saint, but he is a lot of a better person than you make him out to be.

He didn't start the ANC, when he was offered to be released it meant that the ANC and all of it's work towards its goals would be lost something like that, he's not single handedly responsible for destroying the country the leaders of the ANC after he finished his time in Parliament are more responsible because of the high amounts of corruption currently, the only goal of the organization wasn't to plant bombs and weren't intended to kill people, a lot of the protests against the Apartheid regime were meant to be peaceful until shots were fired by the police like Sharpeville.

Mandela didn't start the ANC (the organisation you're talking about), but he was a key figure in it. It was other people's idea to plant the bombs, but Nelson Mandela wanted the bombs to go off at night time to avoid loss of life. The apartheid government used this to fuel beliefs that he was a terrorist. He was offered release if he ended his ties with the ANC, not if he stopped using violence. Nelson Mandela was NOT a socialist, the ANC became democratic after the fall of the USSR. The reason why the economy was crippled after the ANC came to power was because the apartheid government spent millions to keep apartheid alive after foreign sanctions, leaving the ANC with no money in which to run a country.
The main reason why people think he is a saint is because he was openly against a violent revolution after he came out of prison and single handily stopped a violent revolution after the death of Chris Hani. Plus he gave a few quotable speeches.
Source: I'm a white South African that took history in school and hates the ANC but admires Nelson Mandela.

"The African National Congress (ANC) was designated as a terrorist organisation by South Africa's old apartheid regime.
A US senator said the new legislation was a step towards removing the "shame of dishonouring this great leader"."
