the 660 is a bit of a dated card, so if you expect to do some gaming on the side you'd probably go better with the 960 im not sure on this, but i think nvidia has a department that's working with the unreal guys it'd probably work better there too
but the thing here is that everybody will say "oh if you drop another 100 dollars on a gpu you can get X" or "oh well if you spend all the remaining money you can buy X" , but the reality of it is that I don't really want to spend all my money necessarily, and I'll just opt to buy whatever's enough for whatever im doing
so... whatever's like, on sale or the cheapest in your area. the 660 and the 960 are the same price where i am, but you might see huge price differences between say a radeon 7870 and a 270. just pick your favorite vendor and browse whatever's good and available. any of the cards are fine. i think.

Oh ok thanks for that! I'll definitely look into the 960, because form what i've seen like you said they are pretty much the same price, and if the 960 is better that would probably be a better buy. or for just a little more i could get a titan.

well the thing about consumer cards is that it's good enough for the money and what you're going to be doing
where as the firepro and quatro lineups are expensive partly because they're targeting companies, not everyday joes like you are me, so they can actually justify making you pay a premium for that 12 gb of vram or whatever at a price thats several times more expensive than a consumer reference card of the same type and similar caliber
initally, i thought "Yeah, sure, go buy a firepro if youre a freelance artist working from home on opencad or whatever", but just consider this ;
- cooling solutions on consumer cards are quite a lot better
- the value is quite a lot better
- they are made to play games, really
3d modelling wise, ive really only used source filmmaker and blender, but note that a lot of software will benefit from different stuff on cards
- sony vegas, for example i think this is what happened switched to open cl from cuda, and runs a TON better on amd cards now
- newer cards dont actually always help with performance. i have a couple of pitcairn cards that i use to regularly create media, but ive heard that some programs are actually optimized for the older generations of cards and spending a lot on a newer version of an old card isnt really helpful
soo... to sum it up...
firepro or quatro graphics are better at creating media, in your case 3d modelling, just since you're wanting to do some gaming too, i'd just say go for a r9 270 or a gtx 260. they work, and unless you're a huge contractor making models for your local government where you absolutely cannot stand a single artifact in your real time render, just get one of those "gaming" cards

Ok i was thinking of doing what you said, and you have persuaded me to do just that! Though how good is the GTX260 compared to say a 960 or 580? Though i know the price is a lot cheaper on the 260

I'm not sure, i mean i've heard the firepro is better for 3D modeling but for that price range it might be more beneficial to get the GTX. (also i kind of want to play games with decent FPS as well)

quatro and firepro graphics really do not hit that sweet spot for cost to performance
they're workstation grade gpus yes, but they're not really made for consumers like you and me
furthermore... i think they may have come out and dropped cuda support in cc but cs6 runs a ton better on cuda gpus. so... depends on the application but in general things tend to favor nvidia on graphics acceleration. i'm a team red guy, so really not saying this to go fanboy on nvidia at all
you may want to consider getting a gtx card, though some applications like final cut pro actually only work well with the 69xx cards
