The Tau are the guys you don't want to be on the receiving end of ranged attacks from but I believe their mechs are about the closes to 'Gundams" as far as tech that's not 'magical' in anyway.

PS: Tau can be a lot of fun, play which ever army you find the most interesting because you'll be more driven to paint and mod them that way
