You should definitely try and get a rough draft finished before looking to pad it - in my experience, at least, any task that looks like a lot to fill up often ends up being way less than it looks. I've gone thousands of words over limits in projects before.

From my perspective, that sounds like a shitload to fit into ten minutes. The first two bullet points alone should take at least two minutes to explain each. Try writing out a very rough version of the speech, and just time yourself doing it - you might surprise yourself in how long it takes.

If you need to add more, after you explain each thing relate it to one of the shipwrecks you're studying. For example, "Artifacts from long submerged wrecks will be saturated with blah because (in-depth explanation, get as molecular as you can) - in the case of the Batavia, x object was found saturated and this was dealt with by doing y." Any help?

Methane is a chemical, enlarge and read the picture, that's at least 3 mins worth of talking done already

Chemical reactions that can cause shipwrecks (explosive cargo, explosive pistachios etc), chemical reactions undergone as ship sinks (rusting etc). That's all I can think off the top of my head, haven't done chemistry in a few years. Thermal processes (convection etc) that happen during/ post shipwrecks?
User avatar #145713 - reaperoxide (07/20/2014) [-]
I have to compare conservation and restoration techniques used in two Australian archaeological projects. Discuss the range of chemical procedures which can be used to clean, preserve and stabilize artifacts. And while doing this I need to:

explain that artefacts from long submerged wrecks will be saturated with dissolved chlorides and sulfates.

describe the processes that occur when a saturated solution evaporates and relate this to the potential damage to drying artefacts.

identify the use of electrolysis as a means of removing salt

identify the use of electrolysis as a means of cleaning and stabilising iron, copper and lead artefacts

I'm doing the Batavia and SS Xantho. I should be able to get the information I just don't know how I'm going to be able to talk about it for that time.
