I use what is called a post anvil, and it's subtype is a knife makers anvil, which doesn't have a horn or a step, it does however have a Pritchett hole for various tools to (which I had to make myself) fit into.

It is black because I rub charcoal into it's surface so that the strike surface doesn't rust. It lives outside all year round.

Very good there, Unfortunately making 10 thousand iron daggers isn't applicable, nor is grinding like all hell at this point. Not true, there is a 15 year grind I have to do, mainly produce at minimum three works a year for fifteen years, and do my Masters piece.

However for my blade smithing specialisation, I need to submit a blade of significant quality to the knife makers guild and have it rated at a masters level.

The requirements to make journeyman are to
A) Construct your own Anvil
B) Construct your own tongs
C) Make a useable hammer (it can be cheated now by using a store bought one and refacing it)
D) Be able to consistently produce a point on a bar (think handmade nails)
E) Hot rivet
F) Drift holes
G) (optional) Forge weld
H) Learn the basics of Metallurgy, and metal composition so that you can appropriately assess what is required to make what

They may be working on an anime backlog and not yet gotten around to watching all of FMA, I only assume it has been watched if it has passed 20 years since it's release.
