bitch all those animals eat meat. Some prefer veggies, but that isn't even close to the same as not eating meat.

So why do they call them canine teeth? Because of their anatomical location. Many purely herbivorous species have "canine" teeth as well, which are clearly not used for hunting animals. Gorillas have very pronounced "canines" and don't eat meat or hunt. So, why would a vegetarian species have "canine teeth"? Well, our canines, are hardly anything that resemble the teeth you see on dogs, to begin with. But to add onto this, many species that do have more pronounced canines, use them for defense, or for other survival purposes not related to weaponry (such as the walrus's tusks used to pull them up onto ledges etc). Even when we did kill animals for food historically, we did so with tools. Our teeth looked very much the same as they do today (with less cavities of course), and they were not in any way used to hunt animals. Whatsoever. So anyone who makes the argument that we have "canine teeth" is simply ignorant to the fact that never were these teeth used to hunt animals, even when we were hunting animals historically. In other words, our teeth do not indicate that we are evolved and specialized to eat any meat, flesh, or food that requires chasing down and hunting. So lets move on.

You can be prey and hunter at the same time. In fact, almost every predator in any given ecosystem works like that. Only the apex predator is clear of any threat.
Humans have used tools for millions of years. Our species has evolved along with tools, and thus a larger choice of different kinds of meat. For a species of our size, it wouldn't be very natural for us to hunt big game like elks, bovine or even deer, but due to us having had tools for such a long time, our digestive system has adapted to these kinds of meat as well. Even without tools, though, we still wouldn't be "vulnerable" to smaller animals like rodents, fish, birds, etc., so it's likely that these have been hunted even with just our bare hands. I think I've also read a fair bit that humans have been researched to be quite opportunistic as well.
Gorillas are not vegetarians. They usually mainly live on a vegetarian diet, but various insects are included in their diets. It's true, though, that they don't really hunt, and mainly use their teeth for defensive purposes. On the other hand, chimpanzees do--an even closer relative of ours. Chimps hunt mammalian species, and so do bonobos. Truth is that our closest relatives have very diverse diets, and just like us, are considered omnivores. The fact that we're able to eat so many different types of meat, and the fact that nearly every expert will tell you that a balanced diet that includes meat is optimal for us. That's modern science telling us this. There's a reason why vegetarians and vegans have to replace the nutrients from meat with supplements and often have a hard time keeping themselves within a healthy BMI range.
Canine teeth are not just used as weapons to hunt animals, by the way. You seem to base your entire argument around this and the fact that humans don't use them to hunt. We've used our canines to help tear through and masticate meat.

please refere to comments below about chimpanzees because its been about 12 hours and ive said the same thing over and over.
if you dont want to ill try and make it short
gorillas are frugivore/insectivores
chimpanzees eat meat but its for fun.
canines are for defense/ and to scare.
but canines arnt for eating meat. they are dull small crappy canines. just because we can use them doesnt mean thats what they were for just because a chimp eats meat doesnt mean it needs to.

Indeed about the gorillas, big ol' no about the chimps. Chimps have been observed to consume a ton of meat per year. About 3 % of their diet consists of meat, which is a very substantial figure. It's clear that their digestive systems can handle it, and that they show definite predatory behavior. Chimps are omnivores, just like humans.
Canines are PARTIALLY for defense, but for most species an easier way to rip apart meat and get through bones. The gorilla is a species that mostly eats vegetation, but still has its sharp canines partially because of defensive purposes, but also because it wasn't long ago since they were eating more meat. They're versatile eaters who adapt greatly to their environment.
Either way, humans naturally eat meat. We've been opportunists, hunters and omnivores for a very long time. Our canines, small as they are in comparison with other meat eaters, still aid us in consumption of meat. We need vitamin b12, the fat and protein from either simply eating meat, or from doing the least natural thing by making use of advanced agriculture to carefully select our diet though beans, lentils, etc. that only exist because of us, and then filling in the rest through supplements. You talk about how we're not adapted to lead an omnivorous lifestyle, when the alternative of not eating any animal products is so much less natural and would end up making you very sick and killing you back when we were still in the food chain.

Best post so far.
The person who said "until now" wasn't incorrect. We currently have supplements and modified foods that help humans survive without meat. Consuming only organic plants is not enough for humans to survive efficiently.

Human beings do not have canine teeth used for hunting animals. The book, "Man the hunted", which goes into quite a great bit of detail on this subject. Man the Hunted Evidence shows that many flying carnivorous birds preyed on us and other primates extensively. Big wild cats, panthers, etc were drooling at the mouth to kill us and eat us. There are countless fossil remains that indicate we were actually the prey, not the hunters. There is no doubt that at some point in our species' history, some of our members, hunted and ate animals. But they did not do this with their teeth. They did it with weapons. If we have no tools, we are incredibly vulnerable actually. So many fossils of ancient humans and our ancestors show a drastically different story from the ones most of the public assume to be true; stories that we were predominantly hunters and that we preyed on many animals. The truth is the exact opposite.
