Ah, well, I was just talking about basic quick matches.
In Dota 2, ranking is handled a bit differently. You have 10 games of "qualifiers" that grabs wins / losses and what you did during that game to determine what your ranking is. You can get pretty high ranking if you play really well, but that's only for those 10 games.
After those 10 games, the amount of points you get is determined on the difference in points for each team and whether you win or lose. Say there's almost no difference, like everyone in the game has around 4300ish ranking, then the winners will gain +25, and the losers get -25.
But if the difference is high, say the average for one team is 4000 and the other is 4500+, then the team with 4500 will get 20-25 if they win... but lose like 30-35 if they lose. On the other hand, the team with 4000 will lose only 20-25 if they lose... and gain around 30-35 if they win. Because the team with lower ranking is expected to lose easily.
It's honestly an awful system.
While not as hard as winning 66% of your games to win or something, especially while solo, you have to win games consistently to get points. There's no real tier thing, like diamond / gold or whatever, but most people go by the 1000 points.
That being said, the community isn't any better and there are people with 4200 ranking that will gloat and look down on people at 4100. It's truly a strange mentality.
