Of course it may be the best option for some. Still, it's only a minority of the population that have made this decision. There are plenty of reasons to use solar panels, the foremost (in my opinion at least) being to generate power in disaster situations.

From my limited understanding, the actual cost of the panels isn't defrayed by energy savings until many years after they have been installed (even after subsidies). Perhaps the technology will someday reach a point where it becomes the obvious choice for many homeowners.

It's important to note that even houses with solar panels require use of conventional sources. When solar panels are at their peak, less power is typically being used in the home, so the excess goes out onto the grid. When it's too dark out the house draws its electricity from the grid. Some may use batteries, which have undoubtedly improved recently, but are rather costly.

Norway is smart for using the geography to their advantage. Honestly I'd be surprised if they weren't doing this.

First of all, you can't have plat 3 mmr and still be playing with silver players even if you are silver. 2nd of all, you're clearly blaming your team more than yourself. It's not gonna help you thinking "I need a good team to win the game for me" instead of "I need to get better to win the game for my team."
User avatar #59 - rainbowrush (09/29/2014) [-]
I need to be better. I am obviously not carrying hard enough. On the other hand, I've never once been carried either.

And it was fully possible to have plat 3 mmr in silver last season, Riot fucked up big time. Fixed it this season, though. I also went rapidly down in mmr.

How is consistency a non issue? Power grids require the consistent input of power, something you can't do with solar or wind. '

These alternatives are slow to catch on because they're still not economically viable. They're making great strides, but they still can't replace the energy we use predominantly. When an alternative energy source becomes more effective it'll get picked up and someone will make a ton of money. I wouldn't worry about the coal/oil industry; They'll go away just like the industries they replaced.
User avatar #125 - rainbowrush (3 hours ago) [-]
I know people who cut down their power bill by 80% by installing some solar panels. Not economical viable at all.

In Norway, 98% of the power produced comes from water. Most of what's slow to catch on, atm, is more because it's still in research phase.

I'm in the middle of an assignment so I have to be brief, but I have time to address that last point if yours - That we're in the second longest cool period in Earths history.
If you meant cooling period, you're flat out wrong. Whatever your views on climate change, the planet is heating up by every measure.
If you meant a period which is cool, I'm not sure you're right, but so what? A rapid change fucks with the system, whether or not it's cold-ish at the beginning or not.

User avatar #53 - rainbowrush (09/29/2014) [-]
They didn't They were just really, really bad. I stopped playing ranked for the most parts last season. I climbe from bronze to silver 1 in 6 days, losing 8 promos, but not one single game not in promos. Had plat 3 mmr at my arrival in silver 1. The people I met there, plus the fact I lost 25-40 lp each loss, only gained 5 for a win, just made me quitt yolo q completely. Done some ranked this season, but really dislike it. Haven't had a team with stronger individual strength the last 10 matches.

I appreciate the level-headedness, it's nice to be reminded that some people still have common sense on this site, even if their ideals don't completely match up with yours.

So is it a thing to hate on Nu?
User avatar #160 to #159 - rainbowrush ONLINE (08/01/2013) [-]
Pretty much yeah. I don't listen to much Nu, but I have some on my phone and there are a lot of great Nu songs. The problem is that there's not a lot to many of the songs. If you listen to for example Slipknot, you might get bored half way through a song. There's also a lot of hate towards bands like Linkin Park and Avenged Sevenfold for a coupe of reasons.

Nu is a pretty boring part of metal, but some a7x every now and again is always nice.
User avatar #161 to #160 - anonymousbrony (08/01/2013) [-]
I listened to older Linkin Park, like their album Minutes to Midnight but I always thought they were alternative. Same for A7X, although it's been awhile.

I would never consider them metal.
User avatar #162 to #161 - rainbowrush ONLINE (08/01/2013) [-]
Metal is usually defined by rhythms and the instruments. Some bands just scream to show that they can scream, don't even try to make it sound good. This is not metal. "Real metal" is quite similar to classical (with the exception of Heavy Metal) .

Let's go with a quite clear example as to how and why metal is divided:

If my memory serves correct, Nu metal is driven by heavy guitar rhythms and riffs. Just like this song: www.youtube.com/watch?v=94bGzWyHbu0
