That's actually done a number of ways! After interning for a camera crew, I learned they can do it via telecom, radio, and a few times even a cellphone was used(but not for international interviews). The video feeds back to the studio real-time (including delay).

Unfortunately, there's always a slight delay between feed and broadcasting, especially on a mass-scale news network.
