I think that's part of what it was that kinda pushed me away from them was when I realized that they're so popular that they've become kinda lame. I mean, when I first got 'em when I was ten, they were amazing, and I loved all that Japanese Samurai stuff. But then there was that sudden ninja craze that picked up all over the place. I think a lot of it was due to Naruto, to be honest, but that was nine years ago now. Things become popular for the strangest reasons. Since then, I've always found myself wanting to get something different. Unfortunately, European swords come in a lot of different styles, so finding that special something is either difficult or costly. And I've vowed that if I ever get one, it'll be functional, rather than just a wall-hanger.
I think the reason there's not a lot of interest in that area is because they're more... "Exotic" weapons. Less practical, more showy. Also less identifiable. You whip out a katana, everybody goes "Oh, it's a katana, that's awesome." You whip out something like a chakram, you better be prepared to explain to them what it is. Great conversation starter, but if something is less recognizable, it's not as "cool."

Claymores are pretty neat, though I'm not a fan of their style. A "real" Claymore has the V-shaped crossguard, pointing upward, which I've never been a fan of. It might be plain, but I actually have a preference for just the long, straight cross-guards. Scent-stopper pommels are also pretty amazing visually IMO, especially the reversed ones.
In the aspect of having the height and strength, I'm of average height at 5'8 (Might be closer to 5'9 nowadays) but I consider myself fairly strong. That's part of why I wouldn't mind having something like that, though I'd probably opt for a Greatsword were that the case.
Cold Steel has a couple functional ones that I like, the Bastard Sword and the Greatsword. I'm considering saving up to try getting one.

Their augmentations to make them the super-soldier SPARTAN II's are also re-programmring how they think, to make them faster in battle, but at the cost that most of them will always be serious. Although, they do make a few jokes in the series. SPARTAN III/IV's don't have this because their augmentations are much different from previous projects.

I know all that. It's just that they're not interesting. I'm not even talking dialogue or anything like that. Halo 4 tried making the Chief more Human and I just rolled my eyes at it. It's more that they're just generic and uninteresting in any way, shape, or form. Just more Supertroopers. Hell, they only throw the Marines into the games for the sake of making them look incompetent.

I don't want them to be emotional. That's part of why I hated Halo 4, the Chief went through three games as a robot and then suddenly he's a chatterbox with all these feelings. I'm not saying he should've stayed a robot, but I'm saying it's a little late for them to suddenly change his character that drastically.
I just don't find the SPARTANs to be badass. They're boring, generic supersoldiers with literally nothing interesting about them. And everybody who likes Halo is obsessed over them, even though there really isn't anything all that cool about them. Like I said, generic Mary-Suepersoldiers.

Anymore, that's fairly uncommon, I think. Depending upon your body type, you might actually be seen as a really small person.
*Shrug* The question, too, is whether or not the medium fits you tightly or not. Like, in my case, if I wear a 2X, it's not very comfortable because it hugs my arms and my neck too much. My physique is akin to a bear, I've got a broad frame, semi-muscular, but I've definitely got a gut. So I can wear the 2XL, but it constricts my movement. I could drop a hundred pounds and I'd still wear a 3X, not because I need it, but because it's more comfortable.
So yeah. Preferences, body type, et cetera. Culture, too. A lot of people in the areas where I have lived were large people, so it's easy to become blinded to it. You might live in an area where there's a lot of skinny people, so it's altered your perception of yourself.
