As best product of valve each part of half-life must be epic as shit. If they would want release it today in form from 2009 it would be another shooter. In 2004 It was epic, because it was first production with shadows/physic in realtime/reflections. It has best graphic. And -thanks advanced physics engine. New level of realism. Next part will be released , when VR technology will be a standard in each house. Or, when they will be able to make photo-realistic graphic.

Nothing can physically live up to the amount of hype that movie generated, it reached fucking critical mass. That doesn't change the fact that it's a great addition to the saga, trust me, I loved it, but it would have been smarter for Disney to bring it down a couple notches with the advertising and such.
#59 - anon (2 hours ago) [-]
Yeah It's pretty on par with the prequels. Agreed on Disney toning down the aggressive advertising too.

I'd argue that it's past the quality of the prequels, especially in terms of acting and dialogue writing

i dont know about you but obi wan was on point in the prequels... just him.... he was the only good thing aside from the fights.

Acting was probably my favorite part about 7, but some of the dialogue was kind of... silly. Being "tempted by the light"? That isn't even slightly lore-friendly nor true to life.

the hype began when the film was confirmed, when we knew about it being a real thing is when people started to say that. with Half Life, they never said they were going to do another, people just expected them to and that slowly built false hope and hype to the point it has become mythical.

Valve knows that the pressure to release something amazing is too high and too much of a risk to take.
#25 - skebaba (8 hours ago) [-]
Obviously it's implied that they would, since the H-L 2 E2 ends with a cliffhanger. That implies a third episode.

Valve has officially confirmed a new Half-Life game multiple times since the end of Episode Two. That's probably where most of the hype has come from. I think it's a risk Valve is willing to take, and I'm confident that they'll make Half-Life 3 great.

true, but that's to do with how you code the game. since there's not much change in how it's controlled, the actually gameplay probably won't change drastically.

think of VR like colour. it's a pretty impressive improvement, but it doesn't really change how you play the game significantly.
#15 - quenz (10 hours ago) [-]
It's not necessarily just a new viewing device with a few cool features. What I've heard from people involved with VR indicates that it does really change the way you have to design games. For example, a writer and game dev working on VR recently, tweeted this: "Watching people trying to force GTA V into VR is scary - I'd be puking! Retrofitting games not made for VR tends to end poorly." Another example would be some things Gabe says in an interview from a while back. eh maybe, but the tech behind the half life game has been integrated into the way you play. physics (all those fucking sew saw (puzzles), AI (alyx) VR feels more like a sublment to a game, not something to create your core mechanic around.
#11 - quenz (12 hours ago) [-]
It's a rather significant supplement if you ask me. VR isn't just a new toy. Plus, they could be working with any number of technologies for the next HL, we don't know.
