A lot of fish don't have pain receptors, and most fish these days are still wild caught. A lot of vegetarians are only vegetarians because factory farming is so terrible, but wild caught fish obviously aren't treated poorly.

Fish have pain receptors, they just don't have large clusters like mammals do that cover their entire body. Additionally, only saltwater fish are still wild caught almost 100% of the time (very few exceptions, and most are species that can live in both fresh and salt water). Most freshwater fish and invertebrate on the market, however, are farmed exclusively in large rivers, lakes, and/or hatcheries.

Scythes aren't inherently bad weapons but they possess extremely notable flaws.
My first gripe with the idea is that the blade is only sharp on the inside. this makes it difficult to effectively hurt someone with it as you have to reach it slightly beyond your victim, which could be costly/lethal in a single fight.

Secondly would be that most scythes have a pitiful range, swords can be roughly any size between 23'' and 33'' based on your height, scythes are barely longer than that at max reach and also leave a man very much open, if someone were to close that distance on you using a scythe, you have a better chance of just hitting them with the wood of it rather than the blade.

Scythes are okay weapons in theory and with proper spacing but scythes are shit in contrast to a Bardiche which is what you'd probably consider a war scythe if the blade was vertical rather than horizontal of the wood or a Lucerne hammer as they have so many different uses. pic related However none of these weapons hold up without many other people using the same weapon akin to a phalanx using pikes.
