| Propaganda goes like this: The hated community were the jews. Judas is derived from Jewish. A jew betrayed the christian people... the meek shall inherit the earth... So do as we say, don't try to rebel and things will be great for you later. (the following is assuming that Jesus did exist but we know him today in the context of exaggeration across history, similar to Davey Crockett and Chuck Norris) Jesus was fashioned into a sort of folk hero. Built into a larger than life character who people could rally behind but posed no real governmental threat. All his deeds were not a threat to established government and by praising him for that modesty, the followers adopted a similar behavior, which is very convenient for a ruling government, when the populace is meek and content with their place. Again this is all anthropological. The same statements could be made for the Greek, Roman and Egyptian gods and their creation myths. That and the practice of a church selling people what were basically "Get out of Sin Free" cards to get more money What the catholic church did in medieval times was atrocious, and you can't blame Christianity for that, that was man using Christianity to his own advantage. I simply have to disagree on the idea that Christianity is a conspiracy theory. I see the reasoning, but the fact that 11 of 12 disciples died horrifyingly painful deaths as martyrs for some conspiracy to keep the people under control just sounds irrational to me. | ||

| no offense but you are kinda arguing against your own point there An author insisting it exists makes it real? or lack thereof makes something not real? by that logic, you are leading into the conclusion that Man created God, not the other way around... And that is actually a pretty popular argument in the Social Studies, Theology and Anthropology fields. That man needs order, and when he could not make sense of things happening around him, he invents a story that makes sense to him. He can't explain air currents yet so he concludes what he knows. "I can move a small amount of air by blowing, therefore a large amount of air moving must be from a much larger man that lives in the sky." and so on and so forth I see where you're going with that reasoning, but that is not what I meant. Sauron is a fictional character for a novel, where as the Bible is meant to be a historical document. Sauron was created for entertainment, whereas the Bible was written as a historical document and a guide to living life. You're comparing apples and oranges here. Well then, what about Thor and Odin? Or Zeus? Or pretty much any other deity that is not the christian/jewish god Jahve? But the Bible says God exists, and if J.R.R. Tolkien said that Saruon was real, would he be? | ||

| I don't see how letting his son die at the hands of his 'children' makes up for everyone messing around... personally (and from an anthropological perspective) from a certain point on, religion was rewritten and tailored to be used by the government to control the populace... to some degree, its basically propaganda... Old Hebrew law required a sacrifice for sin, as a way to pay for what you have done. Jesus, being God in the flesh, offered himself as the sacrifice for every lie you've told, every person you've wronged, and every sin you've committed. He offered himself, taking up the burdens of all the sins that any person will ever commit, and died, to pay the bail on your head. And how is religion used by the government to control the populace when Jesus was known for attacking the pharisees, and shooting down the Holier-than-thou crowd? Propaganda goes like this: The hated community were the jews. Judas is derived from Jewish. A jew betrayed the christian people... the meek shall inherit the earth... So do as we say, don't try to rebel and things will be great for you later.
