then make a company like that. and you sure there ain't any? I live in finland and besides angry birds there is remedy that has been pretty quiet and frozenbyte (trine) and eh a few others,

but have you considered moving out? britain is one of the countries I'm considering.
I have a few dream companies. it would be awesome to work with some of the greatest old devs like hideo kojima or yoshiniro kitase. it's hard to pick a company since I haven't worked in any company, but what I've heard is that smaller companies are often nicer and allow more freedom.
the dream is to own a company someday. pretty usual dream I guess, but it would be awesome to just say "ey boys, today we make a game like this, any suggestions?"

Sure we have companies for video games, no doubt on that. Especially Crytek is a well known one for doing the original FarCry and the Crysis series. But as you said it really is nicer to work in a smaller company. My cousin is working in a small server hosting company. They do not only host servers also support servers of other companies. My cousin told me they have relationship to their bosses like friends. Which can be annoying sometimes. As you can imagine if your friend turn in the same second to your boss who tells you that this has to be done right know.

Anyway I would consider opening my own company but never just right after school. After I worked and gained some experience, then maybe.

But as I said: I don't really have a plan. I'll just see how far I get. Future plans never end up as you want anyways.

totally. doors are open for you to do almost anything. all it needs is a bit of dedication and in some cases money . just believe in yourself and everything will work out.
since you wanna do games someday have you considered some "dream companies" to be in or do you wanna make your own?

I don't think I'm going to be a game developer, just something I said when I was younger. And I'm from Germany anyways so there aren't much companies creating games. Something considerable as a dream job or at least the most lucrative company to work for would be "SAP" which is Germanys biggest software exporter. They develop programs for companies all over the world if they request anything. But I think if I study Software Engineering in college I'll keep all doors open.

How about you?, What's your dream company?

I have not really a plan. I just see how far I can go and keep studying. I just finished school this year so I'm going either to a college and study more programming, doing my bachelor if not a master degree. Or if this doesn't work out I'm just going to do a vocational training in a near by IT company. Since I went to a programming school I think I have an advantage to find a place in the programming scene.

I'm happy for you! I'm omw becoming one but.. there is so many bumps in the road. I finally know what I want to do, 3d-modeling. I've tried learning a bit of coding and I know the basics of javascript, can do a few things on gml and some python.
it's just a pain to get into a school. after this year, it's gonna be my third time trying, but this time I'm gonna go to some of those expensive schools and get a student loan... I just can't get in the normal way it seems.
I've tried making a few games on gml and renpy.

I guess my instinctive reaction to someone asking something like that is just, "Don't talk to this person."
#81 - kanedam (06/11/2015) [-]
your instincts sure are flawed...

i guess you dont have children?
User avatar
#85 - hudis (06/11/2015) [-]
No. Then again, I don't know what my instinctive reaction would be since I haven't been in that situation. Poor phrasing on my part.
#87 - kanedam (06/11/2015) [-]
the most common reaction (if the name is correct) is "what has happened to my child?"
#169 - anon (06/11/2015) [-]

or if you're a character on a tv show :

sigh* ... what did he do this time ?
.
User avatar
#92 - hudis (06/11/2015) [-]
I was assuming I had the child with me. Obviously the reaction would be drastically different if that wasn't the case.
#93 - kanedam (06/11/2015) [-]
if the child is with you and is older than a very little kid...
then you would most likely thing the child has done something, or something happened.
so again, you wouldnt think "dont talk to this person" (maybe its the parents of a friend of your child, maybe its a friend of your child, maybe and so on...)
User avatar
#166 - ninjaspartan (06/11/2015) [-]
Probably the first thing that comes to people's minds when their child is with them is "why does this person know my child." As that child being known by someone on the Internet is a dangerous thing. I'm not sure about you but that doesnt merit a follow up unless you're in a horror movie.
