anon (06/01/2015) [-] Su? Or Sudo? Depending on your distrobution, su may do nothing by default without being given as an argument to su. I was simply trying to spread the knowledge that su stands for switch user. As far as I know, sudo makes something as another user (for example you log in as "faggot" and you want to run or whatever the thing as "admin", you'd use sudo) and the user as default is the super user. Su actually switches the user and (depending of the distro of course) the user by default is the super user. #161 -

Also, I thought you were saying the default behavior of su is to switch to root. Depending on distribution, you cannot just run su, you need to sudo su.
