>what is asking for forgiveness before God

unless you're one of those strange denomination the whole point of Jesus dying was for our sins and paying the ultimate price and all that. and when you sin it is up to you to decide if you want to reconcile before God.

and it doesn't even have to be some on your knees, in a church, before a pastor, on sunday, weepy heartfelt, soulpouring thing. it can just be a quick little prayer.

I've been taught so long as you don't purposefully indulge in a life of sin and debauchery then you are good in the eyes of god.

you falsely believe that people need direction from a higher power. Why don't you believe that people are capable of being independent? Why would your God give you free will only to make you cling to his coat tails and not be capable of choosing what to do for yourself?

why does this make you so salty.

fuck sake dude people don't all have the same beliefs no need to get so astronomically triggered over the fact that people believe in a higher power.

some people just click with religion the same way someone can click with math and shit.

no, nor does every bullet shot at a man kill him.
that does not mean we should shoot.
religion teaches anti-critical thinking.
it teaches not to question
it teaches not to doubt.
these are dangerous teachings when coupled with any form of passion for anything.
the teachings of the abrahamic religions are poison in the minds of humans.
and that poison has driven innumerable of them, and will continue to drive innumerable more among them, to kill others, to mutilate eachother and others, and to subjugate and opress.

well golly gee that's not at all what i've experienced in my lifetime of going to churches.

in fact i've been taught quite the opposite.

I've been to quite a few seminars hosted by my pastor which did nothing but teach us how to view the bible with a critical eye and to question things and not to just sit there and be spoon fed everything.

Even if we decide that the church is no longer something we need in our lives after the fact. So long as we go about our lives trying to be as Christ-like as possible (ie good, charitable, understanding and the like)

but i do see where you're coming from. the puritanical and hardcore traditional places of faith across the world which host the abrahamic religions cause infinitely more harm than good to themselves and the land around them.

that is one church, one pastor.
for sure, there are more like that out there, but the overwhelming majority, are not.
i have been to church, i live in a traditionally christian country, i have listened to pastors, i have heard preachings from around the world. only once in a blue moon do i hear anything like what you describe.
and i'm sorry, but it matters null what one pastor teaches, it is what the overwhelming majority teaches, that causes the harm, and it is what poisons the people that follow them.
User avatar

And so that's why smaller cases like that are trying desperately to get their teachings spread as the majority.

Things like MegaChurches in my mind, which i've seen do nothing but preach falsehoods, need to be broken up but sadly that's not happening anytime soon.

the raw text also teaches ani-critical thinking and blind obedience.
your pastor taught you otherwise, but that does not change what is written in the bible.

I believe that everyone has free will, God only suggests the way our life will go, it is our job to make the most of what God has given us. We Humans are independent, but not entirely so, we need God, but we are not entirely dependent upon him.
