ya thats pretty inaccurate, don't know if this is an actual quote from some priest or just a part of a story annie dillard is making up but just because you do not know about god doesn't automatically mean you get to go to heaven.
can't seem to find the exact passages right now but i do know somewhere in the new testament it is said that people who do not ever learn of god/jesus/the good new and all that good stuff will be judged by how he keeps the obvious morals every person knows such as not killing each other, stealing or just being hateful to everyone. a few others but like i said i can't find the verses or remember what exactly was said off the top of my head.
you will be judged differently and probably less harsh if you are never taught his word, just as preachers of his word are judged more harshly.

Homosexual acts are an abomination to God. Leviticus 18:22
If a man has sex with another man, kill them both. Leviticus 20:13
I never said anything about God hating gays. That does not mean he does not think of them as an abomination. You know nothing of Yahweh. I never said that we shouldn't treat homosexuals as equals, that does not change how they are seen by the Lord.
You idiotic Christians are fucking joke.
Jesus' words "Don't misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose." Matthew 5:17
Jesus lived by the laws of the Old Testament. Therefore, though he taught peace and tolerance he believed the word and laws of Leviticus. If you wish to live like Jesus did, live by the old Laws. Unless you do that then you are the everyday buffet style Christian i.e. the ones the world can't stand.

oh and by the way;
Leviticus -----> the law for the Levites (the Jewhish priests) not for every living human.
so it's taken out of context. the purpose of the levites was to stand out among other people and tribes in Israel, Sinai and Judah. that's why they where not allowed to take tattoos, where clothing of different materials and alot more rules that does not apply to the rest od mankind.
Matthew 5:17 "Jesus came to accomplish their purpose" yeah taking the penalty (death) for all sin and sinners.
so stop being an asshole.

ooooohhhhh. you throw up some fancy bibleverses out of context and tell me the hebrew name of God. and I'm supposed to do what? think you're an expert, ??
I Just spent a year in school, studying the bible. I'm sorry to say that you make the same mistaskes as the westboro baptist church, you're just sitting on the other side of the table..... you've become the thing you hate.
Jesus died for every sinner on the cross, that includes me, my gay friends, my straight friends my family, my internett buddies (even you, like it or not).

While I am not trying to say what you beleive is wrong.
If you do not beleive and follow the bible 100% you are not a Christian.
Its like saying you're a marathon runner that runs 16 miles because he pick and chooses how much he runs. You may still be a runner, but you are not a marathon runner.

I believe the Bible 100%. Did I ever say I support gay Marriage? No. But what are the two greatest commandments that Jesus gave? love the lord God with all your heart, mind, body, and soul. And Love your neighbor as you love yourself. You won't be showing the love of Jesus if you go around and condemn everyone. If you truly Love Jesus and others then they would naturally want to know more about what you believe in.

So what are we?

Cool it on the sanctimony.
I think that I, an English-speaker, am allowed to dictate how the word "Christian" is used, collectively with other English-speakers.
It's nonsense to assert that one cannot be a Christian without being a fundamentalist. Such a narrow usage makes the word lose its meaning, and we'd have to call all those other people something else.
Christianity is not the Bible. Christianity is the religious belief system and practices centered on the idea of Christ's sacrifice and divinity, and having the Bible as its central text.
Baptists are Christian. Methodists and Pentecostals are Christian. Catholics and Episcopalians and Eastern Orthodox are Christian. The murderous religious ideology that prevailed during the Inquisitions was Christian, and so the peaceful, mostly harmless form of Christianity that exists in America today. "Christian" is an umbrella term for all these beliefs.
#111 - osimonmagus (06/03/2013) [-]
A Christian is a person who follows Christianity. Christianity is belief based on the Bible. Your nonsense is the exact opposite of what the Christian belief system was meant to be. There are strict rules and guidelines written down in the Bible. To not believe in the bible in entirety does not make you a Christian, it makes you confused. Yahweh clearly states how he wants mankind to live and clearly states to follow HIS word which is the Bible. To not follow his each and every word means you judge his word and for a mere mortal to question the word of God makes him no better than Lucifer himself. You are foolish.
#168 - Ruspanic (06/04/2013) [-]
And I suppose you think you follow the Bible to the letter as it was intended to be understood.
Absurd. You, like everyone else, reads through the lens of your own personal experience and biases. Many Christians take some parts of the Bible to be metaphors. Many believe parts of the Old Testament apply only to Jews, or that it was nullified by the coming of Jesus.
#22 - danniegurl (06/03/2013) [-]
the thing is, christian or not, we all sin.
however, believing that jesus died for you forgives all of your sins.
it's not picking and choosing the parts you want to believe.
also, the bible says "he who has never sinned shall cast the first stone"
so we'd be complete hypocrites to ignore that part of the bible, as well.
#117 - pooppoopmatt (06/03/2013) [-]
Amen. Sin is Sin. If I were to tell someone that I hate them, or if I disrespected my parents, got a divorce, used the Lords name in Vein, etc.etc I would be just as guilty as someone who practiced homosexuality or any matter of lust. People just like picking one sin to focus on to excuse all the other ones they themselves are doing.

its not really like of im forgiven by god so i don't need your forgiveness cant find an exact verse about seeking forgiveness from others, it dose teach to forgive your brother as many times as he does you wrong, but Galatians 5:13 says "you, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature, rather, serve one another in love." and really doing anyone wrong in the first place should be a pretty big thing not to do as a devout christian since one of the two greatest commandments as said by jesus himself "love your neighbor as yourself"
was this helpful at all?
#194 - GoldenLotus (06/04/2013) [-]
No, I apologize, but it wasn't. The passage as well as Jesus' commandment that you posted had nothing to do with seeking forgiveness from others when you "sin" it simply stated that you should try not to "sin".
Jesus actually did the same thing as what you're saying that you should not do. In the bible, he forgave people without even consulting the party that was wronged.

>As long as they know about god
Sorry you sound a bit like you're on a mission to assimilate everything and we all know the borg suck.
#119 - pooppoopmatt (06/03/2013) [-]
Thank you, Like I stated in another comment. Most Christians focus on this sin and not others. They focus on Lust and sexuality to excuse there own sin. They want to make others look bad in comparison. People should be more loving. Arguing never saved anyone haha
