I enjoy a fine steak, but sometimes a greesy cheeseburger is just better.
The Avengers is one of the most entertaining and fulfilling movies i have ever watched... Now i dont know if you enjoy sci-fi, superheroes, adventure etc. if you dont... then this will all be moot.

The pacing, the characters, the chemistry between the actors, the humour, the action, and even the plot.... which was not that important or impressive but adequate for such a movie, the movie isnt plot driven, its a character and action driven movie.
Now i myself is a big comic book fan, and The Avengers is IMHO the best comic book movie to date, without a doubt.
There were so many great dialogues, so many iconic shots, such a great pace and such impressive action.
Josh Whedon really did a good job at balancing all characters. When is the last time youve seen a movie with 4-6 main characters? where they all get equal treatment and respect on screen? Whedon is great at that, he already proved this on Firefly where we had even more main characters.

Now before i just sell this movie as a great action film, i will say that it did more than that. Compared to movies like Transformers, which i found extremly dull and predictable, because of the shallow characters, the lame premise, the annoying dialogue, the boring side characters. The otherwise impressive action scenes just felt flat because i didnt feel anything for any of the characters on the screen. The Avengers made a great action blockbuster... it did perfectly what it aimed to do, it didnt have a deep plot or twisted and over complicated story, because it didnt need to have one, that wasnt the point, the movie set a premise and thats all it needed, it already had 5 movies that was setting up the scale for The Avengers... i cant remember the last time i felt like a 12 year old child just completly dissapering into a movie, it was awesome, it was perfect entertainment.

I dont agree... the plot in this movie isnt about the aliens, its about the team... This is team movie, the premise isnt aliens, thats the side plot, the main plot is of a team of completly different personalities coming together... guys with egos bigger than life, the aliens just work as an ignition for the team to come together.
The gathering of the team is imo greatly performed.

Besides, i always review movies from the perspective of what they try to do. I cant compare an action flick to a drama, its two different movies who are trying to do different things. The Avengers is comic book adaption, and as an avid comic book reader, it was true (so true that my fanboy heart cried) to the source material. Its an EPIC culmination of 5 previous movies, also i very much enjoy Whedons writing.

On a side note, i always loved how Whedons treats his female protagonists, here im talking about Black Widow who wasnt just eye candy, but an active member of the team - not like some other movies *Cough* Megan Fox *Cough* Transformers*Cough* Fucking Michael Bay *Cough*.
