if there is no source material then the anime itself is the source material. Hence "anime-original".

It was probably the 1903 Flyer, as the 1904 Flyer was perfectly capable of flight, even making a circle. The 1903 Flyer however, in the Wright Bros own words, was a piece of shit that made it hard enough to go straight.

That flew in 1906, the Wright Brothers plane flew in 1903.

If anything, it was the first to take off under its own power, if anyone in Europe didn't beat Dumont to it. Though, had it wheels, the Flyer II or III could probably have taken off under their own power. They would have simply needed a lot of room.

Oh, I guess I get the confusion now, you see, I'm brazillian, so schools here always told us how Santos Dumont was the father of aviation and whatnot. I actually dont record learning about the Wright brothers at school.
I think the deal here is, Dumont had the first DOCUMENTED self-powered flight, and the Wright brothers kinda just had everyone take their word for it, so the historians can't really credit them for it, no matter if they actually did it or not. (And, according to that link I sent in another post, some people tried to reproduce the Wright's machine and it wouldn't take flight).

According to wikipedia's source [1], the Wright Flyer (the one that took flight 1904) couldn't have possibly taken flight.

Sorry, but even if the 1903 Flyer's 852-foot-long flight doesn't count, the 1904 Flyer's 5 mile flight does. Which beats out Santos Dumont's by 2 years.
