Estimates put it at something over 90% by militants. Honestly the U.S. does a damn good job of avoiding civilian casualties (especially considering the militants intentional force the U.S. to kill civilians a lot by taking cover in building and and holding the civilians inside).
#180 - anon (04/03/2015) [-]
boo fucking hoo. We're fighting terrorists that blow themselves up without regard for the people around them and disguise themselves as civilians all the damn time. We at least TRY not to hurt the innocent. If we didn't care, you think these wars would last longer than a year? That whole fucking region would be reduced to ashes if we went all-out.

We wouldn't even need nukes, we could just use AC-130s and other artillery beyond their reach to bomb the bastards back to the stone age.

I think you're right. It's important to note, however, that the majority of those deaths were caused by Iraqis killing other Iraqis, not by American forces. One could still assign blame to the USA for creating the situation in the first place, but it would be wrong to say that American soldiers killed 100k + civilians in Iraq.

But most of the isn't the USAs fault.

It generally has to do with the fact that the islamic fundamentalists care more about islam than about the lives of those around them.
Strapping bombs to civilians and having american shoot them doesn't mean its the american's fault they died
#148 - firesky (04/03/2015) [-]
Yes, yes it is. It always takes two to tango. Because many deaths wouldn't have happened without the uncalled-for "war on terror".

The US plunged mutliple countries into war with the excuse of a group that origins in that region and was even equipped and trained by the US to fuck with the Russians. Which is by the way happening again in Ukraine as it seems.

Going just for the kill statistic, US troops may have caused less deaths then the extremists, but surely also in the thenthousands with choppers, gunships and drones alone. You just don't hear about it in the media because nobody gives a shit. Stuff like the video that got leaked 2007 most likely happen on a regular basis, you just don't hear about it.

And that's what grinds my gears. That "We didn do nuffin" attitude. At least admit that that what's happening is shit and the US is one of the two responsible parties.

The only real proper mistake the united states made was the 2003 invasion of Iraq. It took apart what was a relatively stable, if not just, government. Saddam Hussein was definitely a dictator who deserved who what he got, but it proved fruitless to build a democracy. But i digress

The USA didn't deploy to the middle east to kill civilians, they went there to protect them (if you can look at it that way). Quit making it out as if these civilian casualties were on purpose, and that it isn't normal. I'm not saying it's right, but you also have to remember that in the second world war we literally leveled germany. And nobody cries about that
#169 - firesky (04/03/2015) [-]
Of course the US didn't deploy to kill civilians, but casualties are well accepted, even in big numbers. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2014/nov/24/-sp-us-drone-strikes-kill-1147 Therefor I disagree with the protect point. Single soldiers doing/trying it? Yes. The command? No.

Killing civillians also isn't the goal of terrorists if you want so. They want to cause hate and panic. Killing civilians is their tool to do that.

Do I think it's OK to want to get rid of such people? Definitely. But the american way causes even more harm. How many terrorist attacks in the past years would it take to kill the same amount of people that got killed only because of the "war on terror"?

And for WW2 I think that the Russians had more part in defeating the Germans. US was more present against Japan and with supplies.

And the role of the US in WW2 the rest of the world is still paying for. A lot of military bases, nobody dares to object to the US except for a hand full of states.

Some Germans say the russians left in 1990 the americans are still here.

There is so ridiculously much bluepill here. Shower me in red thumbs, but in return, take some critical thinking lessons.
This isn't to you specifically, but to everyone that commented here.
#84 - anon (04/02/2015) [-]
Did you consider the fact that if the US had not fucking started the war in the first place, none of that would've happened?
When the USA destabilized the government, funds terrorist groups, you cant really say they're not responsible for the civilian deaths, even if the US troops didn't directly shoot them.
User avatar
#154 - fulgrimventris (04/03/2015) [-]
were you dropped as a child?
the US funded militant groups so those groups could fight the soviet invaders.
then after the war those same groups go on to fuck their country up.

>USA picks up extremists, trains them and organizes them, hands them weapons to get the Russians out of there.
>The Russians leave and the US does too, without helping the ones who kicked out the Russians for them.
>Resentment grows and soldiers who only know how to be soldiers, join other factions to ensure their own survival. The country is in ruins and hatred increases. Al-Qaeda is formed,
>War on terror is started.
>Thousands of innocents get murdered while attempting to kill Al-Qaeda.
>Massive losses spawns more hatred. Isis is formed.

You can't put out a fire by pouring more gasoline on it. God damn it.
All you get is a massive explosion followed by more fire.

We actually only ever trained people who happened to be there. We didn't ever ship anyone in. People came flooding into the region, to fight the godless communists. That's not our fault
User avatar

That's what happens when the people you are fighting hide behind civilians and strap explosives to women/ children. Could be worse:
Gulf war, 5,000+ civilians in 6 months
Korean war, 2.5 million in 3 years
Vietnam, 3.8 million in 18 years
Somali civil war: non militants 300,000+ casualties of the 500,000+ total killed.

Look up any war, the people who suffer the most are civilians in the way of the conflict. That is why it sucks to go to war, and carpet bombing is now illegal.
#280 - anon (04/03/2015) [-]
And you guys still wonder why people hate the US. ;D

Those don't count US kills only you dumbfuck, hell not even the allied sides. It counts in total.

and if you knew something than you'd know that in the whole war only 52% of the soldiers were american, rest weren't.

oh but forgot US hate is funny cuz we jelly

The water from your tap whether from city or well costs money each month.

I think anyone who wants to put any usage limit on water should look up something first...

It's called "The Water Cycle"

actually the media was all over OWS, they had a lot of sympathy. as much as I understand where they're coming from the movement was severely misguided. mostly college students who thought that rich fat guy they saw in a political cartoon represented the average dude in a bank
#25 - anon (02/24/2015) [-]
Oh, you mean the group of spoiled rotten kids from rich families who were hanging out on the street for reasons they didn't actually understand protesting the wrong people, and who were also incredibly violent toward any one who asked question about why they were there? Yeah that was totally legit.
#40 - hongkonglongdong (02/24/2015) [-]
See, I don't understand this; I thought FJ as a whole didn't like OWS? I don't actually know anything about it myself, but that's the impression I got of FJs general feelings. But now FJ likes it?

Am I mixing this up with Chanology or something?
#45 - bwiedieter (02/24/2015) [-]
There is no "FJ as a whole". FJ has people from all over the world, each with a different view of things. Some will like it, some will dislike it.
