Yeah, it seems that way. The smart phone generation of kids can't handle games that take too much thought, so Gamefreak has to make the games easier if they want kids to actually complete the game.
It's also part of the reason the newer Pokemon games lack any real post-game. Kids these days
I feel like an old man now...
aren't going to continue playing a game after they beat it. They're going to move onto the next shiny thing within reach. So in the eyes of Gamefreak, "What's the point of making a post-game if only half of our demographic will actually play it?"
I think that's also simply part of their new business plan. I think they rely on keeping the product casual and relying on it's popularity to carry it to as many people as possible, adding to the fact that kids, which acts as potential investments and new fans for the media, are (traditionally seen atleast) more likely to pick a casual colorful game, than a difficult one. It's also the reason why they don't take big chances with the medium, or take advantage of new gameplay opportunities or neat ideas that could put the game on the next level. They're betting on tried and true and on appealing to the masses.
I can't say I like it personally, not that I disagree with the goal I just disagree with the way it's done, but I can't deny the fact that it seems to be working really well for them. Keeping the legacy of Pokemon for the most part intact seems to have done them great good.
Was it like that for everyone? I figured I fucked up by getting pokemon off my Y game.
yeah it feels like the difficulty has been toned down the last few games, all my friends thought OR/AS was too easy
It's two things.
A: Exp share
B: By now everyone has played Pokemon enough that they understand the mechanics, but the games are generally designed for people with less experience.
its not really an experience thing though because i went back and played one of the older games more recently and it didnt feel as easy as the newer ones
It makes the story easier, but on the other hand the post game EV training and similar grinding MUCH more bearable. And to be fair all of the Pokemon game stories are non-challenging if you know what you're doing; the story is where it's at.
I think the main reason might be in the originals, other trainers would have more than just 3 pokemon. I'm not sure, but I believe they made it so only you have 6 pokemon in your party, that alone made a huge difference.
If I am wrong, please correct me.
Personally, I think it's the changes to the EXP. Share. That made powerleveling really easy, since you essentially get 350% XP per fight, so you are never underlevelled.
i dont remember what trainers had that well, but they made it super easy to level up a team of pokemon too, in or/as they changed it so you get the exp share sooner and it effects your entire team and is on by default when you get it. and in general it feels like you can get really strong really fast
X and Y were even easier, so I'd consider it an improvement.
