..Goddamnit I always forget this

He was born in October, so.. Close to 7 months, now.

He's still really small - when I first got him he refused to eat for two months, which is why we ever switched him over to live prey.

So he's a little behind in terms of size, but he's healthy and growing, so I'm not worried ^^

I would recommend trying to keep your snake on frozen/thawed, though.
It's really convenient, having like.. 20 meals stowed away in the freezer.

With live, come a day your snake doesn't feel like eating - it's kind of saddening to just.. Wait for it to die .~.

And nah, in terms of nutrients and all, frozen and live prey are the same.

If your asking about what kinds of feeders though, I hear people always prefer rats over mice.

Mice aren't bad for your snake by any means, they're just higher in fat, which means more growth, y'know?

No, but I'd really like to in the future!

It's potentially bad for the snake. See, Rem's in no danger right now, because he's eating pups - they don't have their eyes open, and are almost entirely helpless.

Live feeders can become a danger to the snake when they're old enough to fight back - one well-placed bite to the head can kill a snake instantly.

The next feeder size up is when they're more aware and able to defend themselves, which is why I'm really try to get him to eat f/t now.

Feeding a snake live prey for it's whole life however, isn't always an issue - it depends on what kind of snake you have.

If you have a snake like mine, who prefers to observe his prey from afar for hours before actually striking it, then you have a problem, and have to carefully watch the snake until he eats (in the same way you don't leave a child unattended in a bathtub, not even for a minute).

If you have the kind of snake that immediately strikes what's put in front of him, you shouldn't have to worry much.

This is the first snake I will be getting and I appreciate your advice.
My friend had a four foot ball and they always did live. I will probably end up doing frozen. Also once I get to know the snake I will be able to make a better choice. Do you know whats better in regards to life essentials and such(Vitamins,Minerals, etc.)? Or are they just the same

He's actually a morph called a blue-eyed leucistic (They come in black-eyed variations as well).

It's actually a co-dominant thing, you can breed them by putting Lesser to Lesser, Mojave to Mojave, Butter to Butter, Mocha to Mochia, or a combination of any of those morphs. He's a MojavexLesser.

I'm currently feeding live kind of reluctantly, he's an extremely picky feeder. I'm trying to switch him over to frozen thawed at the moment xD

Yup.

I fucking love cal kings! I used to handle a lot of them at the pet store. All I can really say is that, if you've got a fidgety or easily frightened little guy, expect to musked on.

I know for a fact that they make great beginner snakes, though. Are you getting a male or female? Any names in mind?
