Doesn't change the fact that becoming vegetarian could save human lives.

They calculated that the amount of farm land needed to supply a cow with food is far greater than the amount of meat it produces. Simply put for 1kg meat you need x amount of grain. I'm not going to state a number because those are grossly exagerated. But the idea stays the same. Eating a lot of meat helps starvation in other parts of the world.
Some author did show that food scarcity is not caused by the amount of meat we produce but by the fact that instead of giving cows and pigs animal food we actually give them grain meant for humans rather than cattle. So basicly we don't have to be vegetarians but it still is a solution to food scarcity.

there is enough land and vegetation on the planet to farm meat for all its inhabitants, we just don't use our economic resources correctly. the U.S could be using its money helping poor countries with their food production, instead of invading them. if we want to help, we should donate to causes that bring aid to countries with food shortages, not just by giving them food, but by helping them get their production systems working efficiently, and we should encourage our government to do the same.

currently the United States produces enough food yearly to feed 14 billion people for a year. Distribution is the problem, not production.
User avatar #255 - distribution (06/18/2014) [-]
Why do you consider me a problem? r00d
User avatar #248 - imagnetsux (06/18/2014) [-]
I actually did not know that. on behalf of every rational person: "WHY THE HELL ARE THERE HUNGRY PEOPLE IN THE FUCKING UNITED STATES THEN?!"
#252 - teranin (06/18/2014) [-]
Because why help people when not spending money is also an option. I'm not a fan of most socialist thought, but there are a few things that I think should really be socialized and treated as a right of all humans... unfortunately such idealism is wasted on humans, our nature and the truth of economics show this to be a no-win situation so long as money=power. Get rid of money, power becomes based on individual merit, and there are aspects of socialism that humans could make work, things like socialized healthcare, retirement, nutrition, victim assistance, psychiatric assistance, and education. None of these can be mandatory, as it puts too much power over your life in the hands of people who aren't you, but we can't even have them as real options until we at LEAST get money out of politics. Of course, that's all idealism anyway. Any time humans have power over each other, they will invariably fuck each other with it.
User avatar #258 - imagnetsux (06/18/2014) [-]
if we can't work around money completely, perhaps we would benefit the introduction of a worldwide currency, fairly distributed among the people, and subjecting prices and wages, where practical, to change based on the both buyer and the seller's financial situation, so that poor people get cheaper food and housing, and large corporations that are doing well need to reduce their prices, pay more for products and raise wages, especially if they use foreign labor and products from developing countries, or exploit the lower economic bracket in their area.
User avatar #261 - teranin (06/18/2014) [-]
None of that will occur. A small group of people control almost all resources, they will never permit losing those resources to help the rest of humanity. Strip the power from money, then you circumvent their control.
User avatar #262 - imagnetsux (06/18/2014) [-]
we can also do that by using our own monetary system, separate from theirs, so that the money goes to the people before they get their hands on it..
#265 - teranin (06/18/2014) [-]
Careful there, that's what Hitler did. Wouldn't want to be a Nazi, would you? Regardless of how good of an idea it was, and how it saved Germany from the worldwide effects of the great depression, and turned them into an industrial powerhouse that could have conquered the world if they hadn't made 3 tactical mistakes (Blitzkreiging the soviets in winter, Allowing british troops to escape across the english channel when they had them pinned, and allying with Japan who then poked the dragon)

Careful, or Judea will declare war on you and every country that's not your own will work together to destroy you and rewrite history to dehumanize you into a monster as completely as possible, while illegalizing scientific investigation into that narrative's validity.

hitler killed 6 million people, but whatevs.
#268 - teranin (06/18/2014) [-]
Also, regardless of whether the holocaust holds up to the scrutiny it's proponents have made illegal, the nationalization of Germany's banks and removal of jewish control of their finances was the tinder that lit the fuse of the Polish mass-murder of german nationals and the UK-French declaration of war on Germany for doing (the wrong thing, admittedly) to try and save it's people.

realistically, a society should have some measure of how much a person has "earned" in addition to what they are entitled to in a socialist system.
User avatar #234 - nustix (06/18/2014) [-]
The problem is that we have cheap things and big bussinesses because they screw over the people in poor countries, yes everybody could survive of this earth currently but we wouldn't have nearly the luxurous lives we currently have. And people are not willing to give that up. To be honest I think it would be easier to fix this problem without 7 billion people on this world.
User avatar #237 - imagnetsux (06/18/2014) [-]
