basically games journalism was "buy adspace for better score on your games, regardless of actual content" and "we'll review our friend's games and overhype them" and people were getting abit pissed at it and I guess the quinnspiracy was the breaking point, where everyone got at their throats over a mere rumor by a angry ex. from there it snowballed into a crusade to force the implementation of journalistic ethics into games journalism, we've had success with companies such as The Escapist however Gawker media basically declared war on it, hence the shitstorm that's going on now, GG initially relied on the actual media to denounce games media for their lack of ethics, but the media won't actually look too deep into it...

if an alien were to come down and be COMPLETELY different from how we looked then a good portion of us would question our religion. if an alien were to look highly similar to us, which is a very slim chance btw, then most christians wouldn't see that as any difference then trying to convert people from another country where christianity wasn't prevalent. Now what would really make things interesting is if they already have the same religions or something close to it as we do on earth. then maybe spirituality might be a common thing to sentient life. Who knows, maybe if there is a god why would he keep us separate from other sentient life, or maybe what people perceived as angels or gods in ancient times were actually an advance alien race. Maybe god doesn't want us to be in contact with aliens until we get our shit together on earth first. In my opinion if I found out god was an alien, but is still capable of omniscience or all powerful and a promise of an afterlife then it wouldn't make much of a difference with me.

As a Christian who does take the Bible seriously, I would say that the existence of extraterrestrial life - even intelligent extraterrestrial life - would not disprove Christianity. It would, however, introduce some very serious religious issues. The consensus Christian belief would probably be that the aliens were creations of God, since we believe God created the entire universe. But are they special creations of God (as humans/Adamites are), and what is their relationship with Him? Do they have souls? Do they have original sin? Do they need to be saved? If so, can Jesus be their savior? Or would there have to be a different, alien messiah? Are we obligated as Christians to spread the gospel to them? Do we go to the same Heaven/Hell? How will the end-time prophecies affect them? Etc., etc.. The aliens' own beliefs, if any, would further complicate things.

It would certainly shake things up in a big, big way.

We are like God because we have emotions like Him/Her. And since He/She has not a physical body (therefore no gender cuz gender is for the flesh) and we do, we are not physically alike but spiritually alike. Also, if God made life ouside Earth (which I believe) He wouldnt tell us since its not our business. We cant even deal with things in this rock.
Or maybe the God and afterlife we know is for this planet only, and other planets have their own deities. Maybe Yahweh ate Osiris, Zeus and all the others, idk.

Not a Christianfag but they could just say "God works in mysterious ways" and be done with it.

They say that about everything, though. It doesn't mean they wouldn't start privately questioning their own beliefs if intelligent aliens showed up.

Thats a good question, actually. I haven't thought about it before. I'm catholic (and a physicist) but believe strongly that much of the old testament (including the creation story in Genesis) is meant metaphorically. I mean, you can't go explaining theories of evolution and planetary formation to a civilization 2 or 3 thousand years ago (not sure exactly when Job wrote out Genesis..). I would probably say that "in his image" is referring to a soul, but then that implies that animals don't have souls.

Damn, you got me thinking now...

But if we don't take the bible literally, it can be interpreted to mean everything. So we have to take it for what it is, which really isn't much.

I don't really take everything from the bible literally, and if Aliens came to earth I honestly think we would find something somewhere about it, or we would say the ALL includes every living thing ever. Either way who cares
User avatar #99 - ninjaroo (08/09/2014) [-]
Not a Christian, but I'd expect that some would say aliens have something to do with Satan, some would say that "made in our image" refers to the soul rather than the physical form, and some would say the entire passage was taken out of context/metaphorical.
