Oh, I am very sorry your great neckbeardedness, please grant me your euphoria and make me enlightened through my own knowledge such as you are. I can see how much of an artist and writer you must be, because you are trying so hard with this facade. Your opening sentence was simply idiotic. Look, let's end this on a good note: I just put an idea forth. The idea was: wishful thinking is bad for you. Instead of attacking the idea (as any true intellectual would do), you attacked me by saying that you were smarter because of "your" high IQ and such. You should never attack someone personally, it is a dead end. You lost this one, simply because you didn't make ONE good point. I hope you learned something today.

An assertion can't be a lie. You must make a great writer when you don't understand the meanings of words. You try too hard to sound articulate while most writers would know to be concise. Of course you would like Dostoevsky, he often slandered religions too.

What? Yes, an assertion can indeed be a lie. I don't even know what to say to that claim... I use complex words for the specific reason of being concise. Are you trolling me or something? You've just said two of the most stupidest things I've heard a self-proclaimed intellectual say on this site. And Dostoevsky never slandered religion. That's simply untrue. You've never read him and it shows. He was always very cryptic about how he felt about the characters (i.e: He discusses Myshkin's thoughts and actions in the most neutral way possible, even though he not-so-obviously is the eponymous 'idiot' of the novel). Stop your pretenses, you've been unmasked.

You said you will always find an atheist intellectually superior to a religious person. I am a religious person, you are an atheist. I am intellectually superior to you, not because of my beliefs, but because of my intelligence. I've taken an IQ test every 2 years since I was 10 at a neurology center in Austin.
#58 - pkrbarmoviea (09/19/2013) [-]
Intelligence can be measured in many ways. You may have a very high logical intelligence (patterns, calculations, etc.), but this doesn't make you philosophically intelligent. You could be (and most certainly are) going through life without ever questioning yourself about the world, life, and every aspect of human nature. Would you read some philosophers, you might come to another conclusion. Do you even have a logical reason to believe in god (at the least in a deistic way (I'm being very charitable here))?

Before anything, good argument.

However I do not find that entirely true. First, people have to understand that a belief in a god does not equal an unshakable faith in the respective sacred writings. Many christians believe in evolution instead of creationism, support gay rights and divorce and only VERY FEW of them take the bible literally, if they have even read it.

Some scientists believe in god, and technically if you don't take the sacred writings literally, the current theories and the belief in a higher being don't really conflict.

What matters here is that belief in a god is not a matter of intellectual ability but a matter of education during early ages. Most religious people are not so because they were convinced by it but because it was taught to them as the one universal base truth from which they see and build the ideas of the world around them. Suddenly removing that base would crumble all their world and beliefs and as so they refuse to do it, no matter how intelligent they are.

I can grant you that most if not nearly all of the atheists were raised either by atheist parents or religious parents who were not dedicated to religion, and as such this truth does not apply to them, giving them an easier time rejecting religion. Atheists can boast about their intelligence all they want, the truth is that most simply had it easier.

This doesn't change the fact that an atheist boasting about his superior intellect is still annoying as fuck.
#42 - pkrbarmoviea (09/19/2013) [-]
Oh, sorry. I think I misread some of your earlier claims. I think you are more subordinate (I think this word is fairly accurate in any case (even my atheism!)) to deism and not theism. I would never have any problems with anyone believing that it is unwise to assume that the universe came from "nothing". That is a very logical position. My gripe is with those who cannot deal/cope with reality, so they chose to believe in a protective, loving god (who is quite keen on smiting many people). This to me is sad, not maddening. I just feel that people should try to have every type of pleasure they require/desire while cooperating peacefully with everyone else.

P.S: I do know it is a very naive position to take (and perhaps an unbeatable (pejoratively so) one) but that is truly how I feel.
#43 - pwnmissilereborn (09/19/2013) [-]

Of course I agree. And "not caring" is always a more reasonable attitude than thumbing someone down or getting pissed.

but that will never happen, people are still going to get butthurt, they will thumb me down, they will call me names, they will bitch about the fact that I am even alive and I will sit here posting comments and laugh at them.

There ain't a single good reason to get pissed off.

1. its pointless text by some faggot in some random place in the world none of it matters at all
2. you dont' have to read it
3. you all have the ability to hide everything I said.

if you get pissed off at things I say you got no one to blame but yourself.
#222 - pkrbarmoviea (09/18/2013) [-]
But if people do not appreciate what you write, it's their freedom to express their opinions by thumbing you down or calling you a 'fagot'. They have the exact same rights as you (who posted something in the first place).
User avatar #223 - sparkyoneonetwo (09/18/2013) [-]

They all bitch about it saying the don't wanna read that stuff or see it, if you don't want to take the 5 seconds to click that one little button and you never have to see what I say again. If you can't handle take the steps to avoid something you don't like that its your own damn fault when you see the thing you don't like.

Bitching about it just going to make it worse. The more they bitch and the more pissed off they get the more and more I'll do it.

I just don't really see how this could be entertaining. Everyone just keeps telling you to "stop being a 'fagot'" and everything. You don't really get to make fun of someone either. Because when I troll people, normally, I get into a debate over something really stupid and make the most logically inconsistent points ever, and then claim to have won. Now that's what I call entertainment.
