I haven't done much research about the conflict because of the media silence you read and hear nothing about it in the news or papers so I only know about everything in the Syrian and Ukrainian conflict

peace in the region is really unlikely due to three major things:
1.the main macho in the region Saudi Arabia version of Islam wahabism encourages and finances groups such as AQAP,al-nusra,ISIS... there version regards all non-followers of its branch(even Muslims) as heretics and this lead to violence against minority groups like shias,yazidis,sufis etc...
2.the fact that the colonial powers didn't properly draw borders to accommodate ethnic and religious niches led to of civil wars we are now seeing
3.Arabs are too split,to diverse to expect any thing like a democracy to be truly effective best case scenario is dictator strongmen i.e Saddam,Qaddafi,Assad...
so really peace in the middle east is too far fetched to be a conceivable reality in the near or mid-future. but on the bright side the Kurds will probably get a homeland so that's nice i guess.
