I have two words for you m8. Spork Sorting.

He compared an object to two things that are similar but not quite the same. Simple for people, but, to my knowledge, we have never made an AI capable of doing that. Unless given instructions for sporks, most utensil sorting programs would either suffer an error or put it in with the closest match (probably spoons). But wall-e just drives up, and is all like "I'ma define me some new parameters on the fly cause I'm balla as hell" and puts it in the middle after a couple of seconds of examining the forks and spoons.

"A robot designed to crush garbage just did something a 4 year old can do, so what?" I hear your hater ass thinking, but that is why it is so damn cool.That's all he should be able to fuckin do! At the end of the movie he undergoes what appears to be a factory reset. He has no concern for anything but trash compacting. No spark of any complex problem solving. I feel safe in assuming that is what all Wall-e robots started out as. But after 800 years, he is not only able to sort utensils, it's just one of the many things he does for his own amusement. He demonstrates that he is as smart as EVE, just not as well learned yet. And EVE was built with an AI.

EVE came standard with a laser arm. Wall-e obtained her arm and was later able to use it as a weapon himself after fiddling with it. EVE has some sort of magic hover voodoo happening inside her that enabled her to fly. Wall-e used a fire extinguisher for space propulsion. EVE came with solutions to a number of obstacles she could face, Wall-e had to adapt.

TLR A mass produced trash compacting robot + 800 years = Spork sorting, laser arm shooting, fire extinguisher flying robot that keeps pace with more advanced robots.
